  1. Well, Yeah, kinda. on Microsoft Bites Apple, Apple Bites Back · · Score: 1

But can't you also see two teams (one at Apple, the other at Microsoft) thinking:

"We have all these entrenched 3D GPUs...what can we do to take advantage of them?"

It's really hard to say GPU acceleration of the GUI is an Apple only idea. If you get past that, "What snazzy stuff can we DO with said GPU?" is the next logical extension.

  3. How GOOD are you? on Job Chances for Older Coders? · · Score: 1

Reguardless of age, there are still jobs for verifiably talented people. But I WILL say that getting a cold-call job is pretty tough. Most of the GOOD programmers I've seen laid off were unemployed less than a month and got hired via networking with their peers.

I think you're seeing a LOT of weeding out in the field of the folks that got that associates degree and jumped into the IT field to get the 'easy money'.

What's funny is, at least in Denver, most of them hopped over to real estate, a marked that's PRIMED for a bust.

The point? Two disparate tasks are being run by the same ciruitry, so Synesthesia may just be another manefestation of a similar behavior.

    Lets do some math here:

    Ink cart, Black - $30

    Ink cart, Color - $30

Printer (after rebate, laptop purchase, whatever) - Free to $60

Do you REALLY think something that can precicely paint 1200 dots to an inch (That's roughly _115_ million dots on a full color page), in less than 4 minutes costs the company NOTHING to produce, package, advertise, ship and GIVE to you?

If you think so, take my advice and don't go into business.

All of the manufacturers are selling their 'low-end' printers at a loss and expecting to make it up in ink sales. If you decide you don't like that, go FIND a cheap, good, printer with cheap refillable ink...go ahead. What? you can't find one? Why do you think that is?

Pay for it up front or pay for it in installments. Any company that successfully stays in business will get your money in one of those two ways and STAY in business.
