The next headline from a Venusian lander will be "Lander finds newspaper with headline 'President claims Global Warming a myth'".
No, Carl Rove had all those destroyed by our secret space force - you don't think NASA has actually been twiddling its thumbs the last 40 years do you?
The government only helps this attitude with how they spend their money.
The government doesn't spend their money - it spends the money of working citizens - and as long as people are not raising absolute holy hell about taxes then the government will continue to spend vast sums on anything and everything - and that won't happen as long as there is less and less need to work for even the basics - after all if things are going to be provided to you why should you have to work for them? One would have thought Americans would have the education to realize every dollar spent by the government is (more than) one dollar less of productive progress - but hey, our votes for the "gimme more" state of mind came pretty cheap, since everyone has their cause - and it's great as long as it's the "free money" of the government being spent.
There's really no compelling reason for shipping boats to be manned (and in fact a lot of compelling reasons not), other than the fact robots can't steer well enough yet.
Automated systems can operate complex equipment in controllable (i.e. measurable) situations beautifully - the problem is there's no one to blame, a'la the Captain of the Valdez, when something, inevitably, goes wrong.
If other email providers can't accept bigger attachments, then it's nearly useless.
I've sent gmail invites to people that had limitations with their current providers, but needed to exchange large(r) files over the course of a few days - few of them left gmail after using it - so, allowing bigger attachments could be viewed as smart on Google's part.
But why would animals, after millions of years, keep eating these seeds?
As a lover of hot sauce, preferring flavorful over painful (my favorite) I'm convinced that hot peppers kill the bad bacteria in our guts - though initially it kills the good bacteria too, hence the desire for a shot of novacane to the nether regions after overindulging in kimchee.

You worship the free market. Guess what: private industry isn't God.
Yeah, but governments are historically the closest thing to Satan on this plane of existence.

FWIW, my sister has an iPhone and tells me that the reception is noticeably worse than her previous phone (a Razor, I think).
If it's more expensive and inferior then it'll be unsuccessful.
Only if the market is actually free (of biased legislation, etc.)
Speak for yourself. I didn't vote for him.

At least it wasn't Gore or Kerry, eh
oh wait
If only Russia had been a small Middle Eastern country we'd have gone in and fixed up their entire government.
Because every American is 100% behind even that small effort, right?
how big are the chances that Kasparov can make a difference
Even less while imprisoned.
Ah well, if Putin is looking out for us then we'll all be ok ... being that he's such a bastion of sanity, and all.
Where's the crime?
An adult facilitating the intentional targeting of a child?
bloggers aren't exactly known for thoroughly checking out sources or even having a full grasp of the issue
Dan Rather was a blogger?
... no wonder it's so quiet here.
I don't really expect any level of ethical behavior from corporations ...
... then you will never observe any if you don't demand it.

Who measures the speed of boats in mph?

Robots are a good solution for some tasks. However, none of those tasks involve firearms.
If you'd ever been in a gunfight you might have a different opinion about putting your own wetware on the receiving end of "tasks involving firearms".

I can see their point.
Their point is, if you're willing to give us money to buy food then we're willing to spend our own on cable tv.
The newest Ubuntu has a windows-like Safe mode
It *never* works with my Geforce 8800 - every time I get a new Nvidia driver install I end up having to manually fix it.
Just in case
I had a two year long download once
Barium enema, eh?
