    The government only helps this attitude with how they spend their money.

    The government doesn't spend their money - it spends the money of working citizens - and as long as people are not raising absolute holy hell about taxes then the government will continue to spend vast sums on anything and everything - and that won't happen as long as there is less and less need to work for even the basics - after all if things are going to be provided to you why should you have to work for them? One would have thought Americans would have the education to realize every dollar spent by the government is (more than) one dollar less of productive progress - but hey, our votes for the "gimme more" state of mind came pretty cheap, since everyone has their cause - and it's great as long as it's the "free money" of the government being spent.

    There's really no compelling reason for shipping boats to be manned (and in fact a lot of compelling reasons not), other than the fact robots can't steer well enough yet.

    Automated systems can operate complex equipment in controllable (i.e. measurable) situations beautifully - the problem is there's no one to blame, a'la the Captain of the Valdez, when something, inevitably, goes wrong.

    Robots are a good solution for some tasks. However, none of those tasks involve firearms.

    If you'd ever been in a gunfight you might have a different opinion about putting your own wetware on the receiving end of "tasks involving firearms".

    If other email providers can't accept bigger attachments, then it's nearly useless.

    I've sent gmail invites to people that had limitations with their current providers, but needed to exchange large(r) files over the course of a few days - few of them left gmail after using it - so, allowing bigger attachments could be viewed as smart on Google's part.

    As a lover of hot sauce, preferring flavorful over painful (my favorite) I'm convinced that hot peppers kill the bad bacteria in our guts - though initially it kills the good bacteria too, hence the desire for a shot of novacane to the nether regions after overindulging in kimchee.

    The newest Ubuntu has a windows-like Safe mode

    It *never* works with my Geforce 8800 - every time I get a new Nvidia driver install I end up having to manually fix it.
