  1. McBride blames IBM, Novell for SCO's fiscal woes on SCO posts Q2 Loss, Gets $11k from Linux · · Score: 4, Funny

Here is a link that made me laugh..

This morning, however, McBride had to face the music with shareholders during the Unix vendor's quarterly earnings call, where he reported sharply reduced earnings and sparse revenue from its licensing business.

McBride put the blame squarely on his rivals for raising doubts in the minds of potential licensees about the legitimacy of SCO's ownership of System V Unix. SCO alleges that IBM illegally contributed Unix code to the Linux kernel and has levied a $5 billion suit against Big Blue.

    Hahaha..

I am working with a team of people to extend FOAF and social networks to help you "keep-track" of your current friends and what it going on with them. I.e. current GPS coordinates, utilizing the MeNowDocument at http://schema.peoplesdns.com/menow/ (which I co-authored) and auto-updating FOAF data through the web for everything from current pictures to current locations (you can even go as far as scripting in which mp3 you are listening to or what webpage you are browsing and this all is updated automatically)

Anyway, it is not just about "meeting" people (I could care less about meeting new friends, I have enough friends and can barely keep up with them) it is really about organizing them.

  7. hi Don.. quick notes. on BIND Is Most Popular DNS Server · · Score: 1

    This is Joel (at IC)..
I personally feel that BIND/Sendmail both have actually weathered quite well and made it through a lot of checking over the years. All the bugs/sploits etc have kind of made both of those packages like the equivalent of a "software cactus" and people feel secure in knowing they have "weathered the storm".

DJB's software is great (i.e. qmail and me go way back, when is yours, IRIS, going to go opensource eh? IRIS could give sendmail a run for it's money.) but he seems to, on purpose, want to make it hard to modify and use (i.e. use for distro's) so he is slowly being shut out. Not to mention the fact that he is not bothering to update it or work on it.

If a significant exploit in BIND came out, or a string of significant exploits came out you would see a shift I think. (i.e. Software Darwin'ism) but this has not happened in a while.

In addition, if something new were to be added to DNS, a new way to add things in DNS that for some reason BIND could not support and people wanted to use it, then it would also go the way of the dodo, but time will tell.

I would be interesting to see a timeline survey with important markings of significant exploits to watch the usage change.

    Anyway.. cheers.

One, linux guys mostly don't care much about graphics. (mostly.. there are a few).
Two, gimp is mostly for quick deals and unless you are a script-fu hacker and feel like writing your own plugins it is not for production house style graphics. You need to work with the tools others are using.

As a side note, photoshop is for "Print" and still is not fully set for "web". For web, fireworks is what basically all the pros are using and for good reason.
Using crossover you can run either fireworks or photoshop in X with no problems so you don't have to bother booting into windows.
If you feel like making a quick button, gimp is fine.
