We would just wave these cards in front of a 5 x 5 inch grey square box near the door and it would figure out if i was able to go in or not. Id imagine they use this to quickly count their inventory at the distributer / brewery. Best use of an RFID tag that ive seen so far.

This is a pretty tough post to reply to.. =P If you took the sentence, "He could of stolen my car" then its grammatically incorrect. The only mistake that was made is that the stenographer thought he / she heard something that they didn't. Lets say I take a program that transcribes my speech to text. I say, "I could've stolen that car", and it spits out, "I could of stolen that car", then the problem lies in the program thinking I said something that I didn't. The fact remains that the sentence that the computer spit out is grammatically incorrect.

  12. Re:regardless of religion.... on Digitized Gutenberg Bible Available · · Score: 1

No, just face it, its a grammar error. I don't think the point of this conversation is if the person who wrote the sentence knew why it was wrong or not. When it comes to grammar and spelling, there really shouldn't be any points of view. You have pretty hard coded rules about what is correct and not. Obviously from the original posters point of view he is forming sentences correctly, but its still not "correct", grammatically speaking.

if you said that you mispelled "am" by writing "is" then that is just what you did (as unbelievable as it might be). But if you in fact did intend to write "is" when you wrote "I is good", then you've made a grammatical error (assuming you speak the standard dialect of English).

    I'd agree with that.

Because the original error had a homophonic aspect to it, I think that we can fairly intuit that it was a spelling error, and not a grammar error. Now, I'll get back to writing my grammar quiz for my students tomorrow.

Ok, i'd guess id think of it this way. Spelling has to do with spelling words correctly. Thats it. The words, would and of, are spelled correctly. Spelling has really nothing to do with how words work with each other.. thats the job of grammar. You could really go off on a tangent and say, well, they sound alike, so he probably spelled the word "have" using the letters o and f. In reality he did not make a completely grammatically correct sentence.

"would of" is not a grammar mistake, its an orthographic mistake, ie a spelling mistake. shit, you don't even know what grammar is.

So, if you take the sentence, "I is good", that merely a spelling mistake? I really meant to say, "I am good" but i just mispelled am. No, I dont think so..

  15. Re:First post with something meaningful to say! on X-Plane - An Obsession For Realism · · Score: 4, Interesting

I used to support MS Flight Simulator over the telephone, so ive had to play with it quite a bit. Although I never really had to figure out how the game.. excuse me simulator, calculates flight data (ive had people yell at me on the phone for calling MS Flight Simulator a game.. you know, those people that dont play games and its a "simulator").

    Anyway, to the point.

With MS Flight Simulator, when you build a new plane for it, you need to build a file that has all the information about how the plane reacts if it were to fly in the air. (it may be a bit different then this I haven't worked there for a couple years). I made a new plane in GMax, but used a different planes files and pretty much changed the model of the aircraft. When you go fly, it uses this file to figure out how winds, altitude, etc are going to react with the plane.

With X-Plane, when I build a model and fly it within the 'simulator', its going to use the actual model itself to calculate how the plane is going to fly. This seems pretty useful to someone who wants to design planes. They called it a 'virtual wind-tunnel' in the article (I only read the first couple pages).

So, the aircraft design data in MS Flight Simulator isn't based off the model of the plane itself, whereas X-Plane uses the model of the plane to figure out how it flies. I would say that for accuracy sakes, your better off testing and simulating stuff with X-Plane vs. Flight Simulator.

As a side note, Flight Simulator is the biggest pain in the ass to support. I would take a few calls a week from some ex-pilot who doesn't think a certain plane is flying correctly (it should be able to go this speed, or the panel doesn't have the gauges like they are in real-life). I really wish those kinds of people could come to my work and find out what kinds of things I can and cannot do.. If everyones plane flies the same way, I cannot really fix that.. Of course ive also talked to a guy who put a bunch of monitors into an old 737 cockpit for MSFS, and another guy who had 9 monitors hooked up, mainly using them for Flight Simulator. That product has some hardcore fans attached to it... (warning im a bit drunk and i tend to ramble, ill stop now..)

You really have to think of it this way. The laws passed by our lawmakers are not laws of physics or anything. They are designed to make someone NOT want to do something that they feel shouldn't be done. It doesn't prevent them from doing so, its a deterrent.

Any sort of law or restriction is that way, your not physically making the act impossible, your giving the people a reason for not doing the act because there will be consequences. So, anyone who is really pushed to the point where they don't care about the consequences of thier act, they are going to do what they want, with no reguard to what laws they may break. Don't think your safe walking down the street because of gun laws.. Id say your safer because of morals. Its pretty obvious to any "normal" person that you shouldn't shoot some unknown person for no reason. This isn't because theres a law that says so, its because most people value life. I feel much safer because of that then any sort of law that someone can pen up..

I am pro-second amendment also (I live in Idaho, we value our guns). I feel some laws involving what you can do with guns are necessary, but its never going to stop "that person" from going crazy and shooting people.

I worked at a company who did tech support for the microsoft games when Dungeon Siege came out. We were all pretty excited for it, but the hype really didn't last that long. What it seemed like to me is that if you played the game for a fairly good amount of time, you could really create a character that was really good at melee, range, and the 2 types of magic. There was no difference in characters that I could see. In my opinion the game really just isnt' that fun unfortunately.

I also got NWN when it first came out, and got somewhat far into it, but it really didn't grab me too much, at least the story of it. The expansion came out recently and I was much more impressed by that, but unfortunately i dont have a ton of time in the summer to play games so I haven't been able to get too far into it. I would say that the people out there making mods are doing more for NWN then they are for Dungeon Siege. I mean with NWN, there are ALOT of characters that you can make and play before you start getting bored. With Dungeon Siege, you can be a sword guy, an archer, or a mage.

In any case, Dungeon Siege, a year or so later, is really not something I would be interested in re-installing, let alone spending money so I can take my sword guy / archer / mage to. I think id rather mess around with the v1.10 beta patch for diablo 2 or watch the dust collect on my monitor...

I have a GT idrive, and I was pretty impressed on the suspension setup. They put one of the pivot points (its 4 bar linkage in the back, or pretty much equiv. to it) *around* the bottom bracket. This is supposed to help when you are climbing a hill, and you want all your pedal power to go into getting you up the hill and not having your back wheel go up and down. I would say things like this are good for mountain biking, as the older full suspension bikes had bad traits about them. The old (5yrs or so) mountain bikes with a swingarm and shock (just a single pivot point or sometimes 2, not 4 like the modern fs bikes) have big problems when climbing hills, a lot of energy is wasted and you end up bobbing up and down. These types of disadvantages kinda limit what the person can do with the bike. Id rather watch mountain biking to see the skill of the biker, on how he takes drops, corners, etc, and having a bike that the rider really doesn't have to think about makes the sport more exciting.
