Companies have been doing this with netflix for a while. I bought a Sony DVD player probably 3 years ago, and it came with 5 free movies from netflix. I hope walmart doesn't make it in this market though, its just another step for them in world domination and I wont stand for it..!
Even if your taking advantage of free university resources, your not going to be able to make anything that comes close to an athlon. That would put this into what we call, "just something to do".
People should use radio's to get any sort of emergency info, as the power will probably be out, they know that, so they make sure the radio puts out any info that people need.
I wouldn't mind them using that part of the airwaves, just as long as the service they replace with it is also as free as broadcast tv. I have a feeling that they are wanting to sell it off to the highest bidder to make some money...
The volt is a unit of electric potential, electromotive force or potential difference and is derived from the units of kilogram metre squared per ampere per second cubed ( kg.m2/A.s3 ). One volt is the electric potential that exists between two points on a conductor carrying one ampere and the power of one watt is used.
So, lets say someone has a voodoo 5. The company who made the card is out of buisness, but if you continue using that card, and because of that you do not buy any nvidia products, you are using one of thier competitors products. And yes, even though they are out of buisness, anything that takes market share away from them they are going to see as a competitor. The nvidia shareholders would crap thier pants if thier company just spent millions of dollars on something, and then turn around and give it to someone else just to be nice. Maybe in some utopian perfect world I could see that but it isn't going to happen here on earth. Heck, I would love to get a driver that worked good for the voodoo 5 in winxp, as I have one of the cards, but I understand why there is not.
Maybe you didn't understand me. Nvidia bought information, and made no sort of claims that they would help in any way thier competitors products. Would you hand over the millions of dollars of information you just bought to microsoft? I sure wouldn't, and im sure the nvidia stockholders wouldn't either. In fact if they did something like that they could probably be sued for mishandling company assets (not a laywer, probably some term for it). Im not sure where I am getting confused at. Of course I live in the real world where a large corporation doesn't just give its intellectual property away to make thier non-customers happy.
You could use smaller words with fewer syllables if you wanted to, but it still isn't going to make your point =)
Actually, no, it isn't that simple. According to many hardware sites at the time, Microsoft actually contacted nVidia and basically said, "Current 3dfx drivers, designed for Win9x, don't work nearly as well as they could on Windows XP. So, since the installed base is so large, we'd like your permission to update the 3dfx drivers for better Windows XP compatability so that users don't have so many issues." nVidia said "No," and refused to give Microsoft permission to update the driver code.
Here is the press release, pretty much says they bought the technology, nothing about further support.
And we have this interview with Brian Burke, employee of Nvidia. Heres a little quote:
GD: What does this mean for future driver support for current Voodoo card owners?
Brian: Under the terms of this agreement, 3dfx will still be responsible for driver support.
Nvidia has no benefit by buying a competing companies technology, and having to dedicate people, computers, and many other things necessary to do driver development and still have it compete with thier own products, it makes no sense. It was really up to what was left of 3dfx to support your hardware, but instead they shipped out the Voodoo 4/5 and now everyones screwed who bought one and wants to use a fairly current OS (including me). I blame 3dfx for this not Nvidia.
So, yes, many former 3dfx users have good reason to dislike nVidia and refuse to use their products.
I think that many former 3dfx users should have many more reasons to dislike 3dfx instead of the way you put it. They really didn't do much for the graphics market after the voodoo 3 (and the voodoo 3 wasn't anything new, as someone stated before it was pretty much 2 voodoo 2's SLI'd, the technology was basically the same). Then they came out with this marketing buzz about motion blur supported on thier new cards, boy that really took off =). So I would say move on with the whole 3dfx deal, nvidia came along and created a superior product and they couldn't compete. Just think of the kinds of things that Nvidia has brought along though. Im not saying they invented any of this stuff, but it was their products I first saw them on.. Hardware T&L, which led to programmable pixel and vertex shaders, which is going to bring us some pretty high quality real time animation on a pc. I am not saying they are perfect by any means but they have made some impressive hardware. It looks like ATI is doing good as well, and if nvidia doesn't keep up they will go the way of 3dfx.
Actually Win2k is what I use, the strength of what makes Windows XP good but without the fisher price of it all.
My last job was mainly supporting software on all windows platforms, and windows xp is by far the hardest to fix. This is mainly due to all the protections and such in the os (it does run good for a while, I just dont like to fix it).
nvidia practically destroyed 3dfx. They bought 3dfx and refused to update any drivers (e.g. nvidia refused to update the windows xp 3dfx-driver when microsoft contacted nvidia). Thus many people had to buy a new geforce card.
Im pretty sure nvidia bought intellectual property from 3dfx, not a contract that said they had to update any drivers. They bought technology, not a promise to support cards that they didn't make. People bought Geforce cards because they were technically better, not because of a big conspiracy.
i fear we all (we who had to buy geforce cards to get windows xp working/or people that heard about this story) have established a real HATE relationship against nvidia.
I have a voodoo 5 card, that card is really only usable under win98. I dont hate nvidia for this, actually I dont *hate* anyone for it (hating someone for that is pretty silly think). Times change, technology changes, and I welcome all of it. Windows XP isn't that good anyway, I would't try to hard to get it to work =).
Actually 3dfx started going downhill after the voodoo2. The voodoo3 didn't support 32bit color, and only texture sizes of 256x256. Nvidia came along with the TNT which was able to do true color, and was able to have texture sizes up to 2048x2048. The vooodoo3 was a joke really, and the reason why is cause 3dfx was king of the hill for too long and didn't expect anyone else to do anything about it.
Will Nvidia fall the same way? Only time will tell, but I have been a big nvidia fan for a while, but I think my next card is going to be a radeon..
I was able to do this by turning on nightshot on my sony camcorder and when I used a remote, i was pretty amazed at how much "light" came out of the remote, it pretty much floods the room and hopefully part of it will hit the tv. Was interesting in any case...
That is probably one of the only things I can really remember from Knotts Berry Farm. They had a few illusions in that house.
1 - First room they took a shorter and a taller person and put them kinda against the wall, they looked the same height.
2 - Next one I believe was the water one. They had a pipe with the water source connected to a water pitcher of some sort, which was pouring onto a little trough, but the water went uphill instead of downhill.
3 - Next room they had someone sit in a chair that was nailed against the wall and made them put their hands on thier lap. The goal was to be able to sit up but the person couldn't.
That was a pretty cool deal they had there, its too bad it got torn down.
About 50 miles or so from where I live there is a hill called gravity hill. When you put your car in neutral it appears the car rolls uphill, its pretty trippy =).
Heres what I would use to fix my family's / friends windows machines:
1 - Couple video drivers (ati / nvidia, bout covers it) 2 - Utilities to make boot disk 3 - Winrar 4 - Latest directx 5 - Latest Windows Media Player / Nimo Codec Pack 6 - Sisoft Sandra
Pretty much everything else gets a bit too specific (modem / nic drivers, sound drivers (although an sblive driver couldn't hurt)). Although I don't have a USB drive, thats what I would put it on it..
Well I feel that something of that scale is going to happen in the last movie, I could see what your saying as whats going to happen.
I also thought it was a bit strange to have those people plugged into the matrix to control the opening of the doors of zion and bringing the ships in. I was just talking with my friend, and it looks like that they had just created a computer within the contruct to control the ships and stuff, it was probably easier to do that then to create a computer system within zion that would do it. When they moved the buttons around on the screen, the computers hooked up to their bodies would interpreret those signals and use them to guide ships.. that would be my guess. By the way I think that part was probably one of the coolest looking computer interfaces ive ever seen =).
When I was watching the first matrix last night, I kinda got the idea that maybe the machines had created a perfect world (but still fake), and within that world they created the matrix.
This would make it so in the minds of everyone creating electricity for the machines are inside of this perfect world, or at least a larger matrix, and in that matrix they are in pods generating electricity. If any of them happened to wake up from the most inner tier of the matrix (like neo, morpheus, etc) they would still be contained within a computer program. After a bit of thought the machines created all this stuff about the prophecy, created the oracle, etc to make them think that there would be one who could free the humans, but in reality it was pretty much a scripted sequence where neo would go restart zion and things would start all over. This version of neo comes along and has found love, something which the others never did, and since he has this choice, this control, he will be able to bring down the matrix..
Hmm must be new here =P. After a certain amount of characters slashdot will insert a space. This was to stop those posts where there was just a long line of letters that made it so you had to horizontally scroll for miles and generally messed up the page.
I thought of that.. but if they still are in the matrix and the matrix was created to keep the humans happy while they produced energy, then in the real world is there still humans producing energy? So in the real world there is all these humans creating energy, and the machines have created this other world for them to believe they are in. Yet in this world they believe they are in, they are all still humans in the pods still collecting energy, and there is yet another matrix that the computers in the "meta-matrix" had created to keep the humans busy i guess you could say while they produced energy. Seems a little strange to me..
I think that the third matrix is really gonna be an eye opener =).
I think the only thing I was more impressed about Doom 3 was the monsters and the "look" of how light and shadows worked.
The half-life 2 trailer was much more impressive though..
Neverwinter Nights doesn't charge you any monthly fee to play online..

They want to be able to tax people based upon how many miles they have driven in their car. They have 2 systems they are looking at:
1 - A GPS System which could also track the physical location
2 - An odometer type device which tracks how many miles they have driven in their car
It seems to me that number 2 fits the bill pretty good, why even propose number 1?
If your lazy heres a cut and paste:

Its Kung Fu =)

Yea, theres always somethin good about paying taxes to benefit a foriegn company.

Whats wrong with win2k?
I ever get to the point where im so lazy that I will install spyware on my machine so I wouldn't have to type my address, please shoot me.
Haha, I was thinking the same thing. Its like saying, I love stabbing my face with a fork, it leaves such nice impressions on my face..
