  1. Re:Programming without music? on Music While Programming? · · Score: 1

Earmuffs that actually block out most sound aren't very comfortable. I got a pair of these "http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=214443" thinking that I could wear them all day while my coworkers argued next to me. While they did a pretty good job of blocking out my coworkers, I found them uncomfortable after more than 10 minutes. They need a good seal to really kill the sound, so loosening them really isn't an option.

That's why I run Linux. Running Linux pretty much rules out any possibility of having sex, and hence any chance of contracting an STD.

I can't speak for your sister and her child's reason for excluding sea creatures from their vegetarianism, but for me pescatarianism is a stepping stone to vegetarianism. I wouldn't be able to become a full vegetarian by going cold turkey :P. So, I'm currently eating fish and crustaceans on a limited basis until I'm ready to do without any meat.

Feel free to call me a "giant hypocrite" or whatever you want, but for me becoming a vegetarian is a major lifestyle change that has significant psychological, cultural, and dietary challenges and it isn't going to happen without approaching the problem intelligently.

It's interesting to see the Slashdot community grappel with this story. On the one hand, Slashdot is typically a staunch defender of privacy. Yet, when the privacy infringer is infringing in such a way that appeals to nerd sensibilities, some of us seem to ease up on our privacy demands, at least as long as it's not our privacy they're talking about. The thing I think is important to keep in mind in these cases is to ask yourself, "What if I were in that person's situation? Would I like it if Google had taken pictures of my private property? How would I feel about it?" I know I wouldn't like it. With that said, I think the lawsuit is unwarranted, as the Borings could just have asked Google to take the images down, who (presumably) would've done just that.

I love how XFS gets grouped as "various Linux filesystems". The parent doesn't even specify which Linux filesystems, so he may have never lost data with XFS. If you're going to take the NFS criticsm with a grain of salt, then I'm going to need a salt lick to see past your argument that "well, I've lost more data, so Linux filesystems are worse than other filesystems". File systems are judged on design and statistical data. Some are better for some applications, others are better other applications. NTFS is not at the top of any of its classes (home, business uses, etc.). XFS would be an appropriate choice for this application, for the reasons stated by the grandparent.
