  1. Thank god for that on New Grads Shun IT Jobs As "Boring" · · Score: 1

Now I won't have to teach them b!7ch3s how to be a slackers and still GTD. But I do agree with the thinking that IT jobs no longer hold the elite/cool factor they did in 1997. Now a days it's, "Oh you don't like the spec? What do you mean vacation! Do the f@ck!n9 work or I'll replace you with a contractor who doesn't think he's a f@ck!n9 Rock Star, mister ""let's take our time and do it right!!"" But I could not imagine doing any other kind of work. I love writing code and hacking business logic. This shit is fun. It's like a RTS where I need to defeat the bugs by using mad logic and clever skills. Someone in real-life told me that want to be a computer programmer because it pays well and seems like a lot of fun. :\ Fail.

  2. Nothing to See here on RSS and Atom in Action · · Score: 2, Interesting

This book has very little to offer in the way of helping .NET or Java Developers. The first section goes over how blogs work and different ways blogs can be used in a business. It's like he wrote this so you could then show it to your boss to convince him to let you department using blogs internally. This is a book for using ROME, Blogging Roller and the new Windows RSS Platform. There are better .NET code examples at codeproject.com. The code in the book is tries to explain how to build a full syndication system that can push either RSS or Atom but instead of sticking to the subject of blogging the example code is trying to build a file syndication manager based on a files from the file system instead of data from a databse where most syndicated content comes from. This book also spends a chapter promoting the value of the Technorati API but gives few (if any as I recall) exampls of actually using it. This book fails just like "Beginning RSS and Atom" from Wrox because it focuses more on current tools then on theroy and pratical advide. Since the author choose to focus on the Windows RSS Platform (IE7? or Vista) he misses the current audince using .NET 1 & 2.

  4. I was Gonzo and I still am. on Technology And The Decline of Gonzo Journalism · · Score: 1

I was a Gonzo writer in college. All of my papers involved drugs, the abuse of social norms and college girls. Some of my professors found it interesting and insightful writing and others were deeply offended. When ever I wrote a live music reviews for the school paper I had to write 2 versions: one was what actually happened and the other was what could be published. I really don't think that the Gonzo writing style and technology mix at all. Tech articles are about how to get things done or how someone else got something done. Gonzo, in it's true form is about pissing off the roof of society while drinking rum from a grapefruit and ranting about the injustice of government involvement in the media. So why aren't there any Gonzo writers? Be we American are so uptight about what others will think of us that we walk the center line of being a good citizen and never tell people how we truly feel. And I am just as guilty as the next person. Oh and here's a real world example: I reviewed an album by a local man-hating female singer. I then proceeded to write about how much I disliked the new album and how each song was about how much she hated men. A few months later I showed up at one of her shows to interview her and she refused to even speak with me. Oh well. Back when HST was ranting and raving people weren't so up tight and could take a joke or criticism. But today people get offended if you fart in their general direction. Pussies. Last week I had a few beers in me so I decided I'd do a port-scanning on some computers in my sub-net and the next day I blogged my adventure. And what do you know some jerk sends me an email telling me that I shouldn't do things like that because it's against the law. See Gonzo and technology do not mix.

And let me tell you a it makes the laptop like like a peice of junk. The there is the fucking wifi card that isn't reconized!! And yes I've tried all of the hacks and several different distros. FUCK ME!! It's so fustrating but I will not give up trying to get it to work.

It wouldn't matter if MS Vista and came out 2007 or not because as long as hardware support on linux is shit and we all know it is, MS will remain on the desktop.

As for OSS and all that jazz. As long as people have options MS in the eyes of the law are not a monoply. MS knows damn well that they could spend a year getting Office to run on Linux but why would that want to do that. Why would that want to create a product that will cause that to loose market share? I've said this before in another post.

Van Husen is your friend. They sell nice looking well fitting cloths (invisible elastice waist-bands for you chubsters) that are wrinkle-free. Wrinkle free means if wash it, dry it ,iron it and then hang it up you've got a shirt or trousers that you can ware at least twice before you need to iron them again.

    The prices are not bad.
$40 Will get you a nice pair of trousers and an Oxford Button-down.
$50 will get some nice expand-O waist Trousers and a Button-down.
Another $50 will get you a blazer.
If you don't own a blazer buy one. Get a Navy-Blue one because it will go with any shirt and trousers.
The other cool thing with Van Husen is that there cloths are designe form modularity. You can mix-and-match their stuff and you'll still look good.

If you're really on a budget Target has a line of cloths called Merona which need a little more ironing but look good and won't break the bank.

Face it social perceptions out weigh your skills and knowledge.

Anyway all of the above information is useless if you don't shower and comb you hair!!
