Hmmmm. I think U2 is maybe one of the only bands making music today that will still be popular in 10 years. I'm not a huge fan; I just don't think my generation is producing many bands with Rolling Stones/Beatles popularity.
Wow, who knew there was a user dedicated to my pet peeve mentioned in my sig! It looks like it's only the "You must be new here" that gets the funny mods, the easy followup doesn't seem to have been treating you too well.
The "computing world" consists of more than desktops and servers. Embedded, handheld, etc. Different OSes for different needs. Sort of like the UNIX philosophy.
Wow, what a tool. This guy has about 4 sentences of content on his blog and the rest is copied verbatim from the original article. That's pretty embarassing that Slashdot is potentially providing this guy with revenue.
But does the end user care, as long as the music they want is available for purchase? Doubtful.
It seems to me that it's like asking "Does the end user care what MP3 player they buy as long as it can play music?". Yes, absolutely. Apple's solution is the best right now - both the MP3 player and the music store.
Why do you believe (or at least imply) that the US should have moral leadership over other autonomous countries? What gives the US the right to have any say whatsoever?
There is a huge difference between planned and implemented. It's nice to know that the famous Knauss, the God of All That is Sexy has determined the IBM design to be superior. This Ad Wizard also knew that the iPod was doomed to failure:
Knauss stayed on until near the end of the iPod's development, but quit shortly before it was released because he had no confidence it would be a success.
Or maybe they are more likely to search. I search for dozens of things every day. And instead of bookmarking my online banking site, for example, I'll just type "td easyweb" into the address bar, press enter, which performs a Google - I'm Feeling Lucky search and redirects you to the first answer.
My personal opinion is geeks overestimate their market share. Google would likely provide a very good overall picture.
The Slashdot blurb mentions both SpaceShipOne and the da Vinci (Golden Palace?) launch needed volunteers. But the page linked seems to only talk about the SS1 launch. Do you sign up to volunteer for the da Vinci launch here as well?
I ask because it's relatively close to me. It's in Kindersley, Saskatchewan.
I wouldn't say it's a one-time curiousity. It's more that he was the first smart person to benefit from the rule changes that allow you to keep going until you lose. I'm sure there are lots of brilliant people who have been on the show who could have put together pretty substantial runs.
Actually, to be pedantic, it doesn't beg any question. To beg the question is to assume the point to be proved in a logical argument.

That's how I read it too! I was wondering why it wasn't modded up yet. Gold.

I'll be right back, I'm taking Violet upstairs.
Cool. I'd highly recommend Ray Kurzweil's "The Age Of Spiritual Machines". It is a pretty interesting opinion on where humanity is headed.
Hahahah, mod that up. Hilarious.
I have a girlfriend on my desktop. Her name is Heidi Klum.

How long has this American flag background been on the Politics section? I only noticed today. Does this exclude discussion of non-American politics?
Damn, I hope that is sarcsam. The Canadian "eh?" cliche gets modded up despite the total lack of humour.
Hahah, good call.

Right, because salaries of veteran IT people have nothing to do with this article.

Yeah, you're totally right - I hate Microsoft too! Grrrr!!!!!
Offtopic? Seriously people. An on topic reply to an off topic post is not off topic. And besides, iso is right.
I think you might be taking your knowledge of the English language for granite. ;)

At least that's what my BSD book says. Correct me if I'm wrong.
That's like the trick I taught my cat: "Sit up or don't!". He has mastered it.
