It'll be interesting to see what sort of an effect this trend has on emulation, which is all about the MHz and basically non-parallelizable. MAME already supports some arcade systems that cannot be emulated at full speed on any CPU yet manufactured. It may be that systems that exist now or in the near future will never be possible to emulate at a reasonable speed.
Converting the 3,268,616 byte TIFF to a PNG and recompressing it with optipng (both lossless steps) brings the file size down to 1,940,833 bytes. I would expect a similar reduction with the 40MB image (if it exists).
Well, I thought they had already blown continuity with "Balance of Terror" when I watched the first episode of Enterprise and saw they had visual ship-to-ship communication. I haven't seen TOS in a while but IIRC the reason they didn't see the Romulans was lack of visual communication technology (which of course seems silly given today's technology). They could try to retcon that as only being on the Romulan end I guess but given their track record with Klingons etc. I doubt they'd bother, and that wouldn't make much sense for a highly intelligent race whose technology is otherwise up-to-date.
Well, sure, you can do that, but then you have to include the menu on every page. Guess what happens when you want to change one of the links on the menu?
And don't just say "use PHP"; there are lots of situations in which PHP is not a practical option.
It's a bit hard to find, but you can file a claim here if you get stiffed by an Amazon Marketplace seller, and Amazon will refund your money. I've used it once in the past with no problems.
I love the music, but it doesn't seem possible to get anywhere without constantly taking damage. Everything takes way too many shots to destroy and shoots stuff at you that you can't really dodge. I've only managed to beat the first level once or twice only to get killed by a boss.
Exactly. Hell, I liked using the machines when I voted in March (I'm a San Diego resident). That has no bearing whatsoever on whether I think they're trustworthy to count the votes, or whether I think Diebold are crooks or not.
* I've heard virii is now passe' -- any confirmation?
*virii is not, and has not ever been, correct. For that matter, neither is *viri, as used in this product title. Basically, virus was a numberless noun in Latin, so it had no Latin plural, and viruses is the only valid English plural.
This page has more information than you probably ever wanted to know on the subject.
Color monitor, got it for $5 at a rummage sale. I used it for a long time for all my video game systems as the display quality is better than a TV. The N64 seemed to periodically give it fits with syncing though - guess it wasn't designed for that sort of thing.;)
Now I only use it for the C64 but it's still working. The shielding is awful though - I have a 17" SVGA monitor right next to it, and as long as the 1702 is on, the screen on the other is all wavy.

That's http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=245502 and different from the bug the parent is describing.
It's planned, see http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=227241 which Bugzilla won't allow to be directly linked from Slashdot.
Well that's great now that I know about it but I'd never heard of it before. What are the odds the aforementioned Mr. Average knows about it?
Harry Potter didn't make it up any more than the poster did.

Well that's only the "real" history if you accept the non-canon Rihannsu stuff. I don't think they do more than mention Remus on the show.

The F5 key is your friend.

Holy crap! I guess it's true what they say about Kibo responding to every post that mentions his name.

There is no escape!
It is.
alt.consumers.free-stuff is good for this kind of thing.

I don't think Google has one built in but you can use this site to do the same sort of thing using Google.

All three of those were in the sequel "More BASIC Computer Games", which is also on that site. ;)

Yeah, on ours the playback froze around when Frodo falls into the Dead Marshes, it worked OK after closing MPC and starting it again.
And if they aren't...they're not true Scotsmen. ;)
