I have a 2.5 years old cousin that can use the iPad and a Wii as good as my father. We are very good at this, the computing devices. Sure, we have made some trade ofs, so the most powerusers lose something (complex hotkey commands), and people good at abstract thinking lose something (the console)... but In the end we have something that is both easy to use, and powerfull. Will anything made by this dude be this balanced?
My father use to play with engines as teenager, toying with engines, repairing, fixing then.
I have grown repairing computers, fixing computer problems. I have absolutelly no fucking idea how to use a car, but I can write assembler sleeping (too bad dreams are stored on volatile ram).
It make sense to me that if this how everyone roll, on the end, our whole thing ( I don't want to call it civilization ), become more computer "cool" and less engines "cool". Also, fast is not always the better thing. Theres something faster than very fast: do nothing, not needing to go or do something.
I can mourn the lost of the Concorde, but objectivelly was too expensive, and maybe to risky. Maybe like nuclear centrals.
Well.. creating standards or changing standards is bad. You break things, stuff stop working, people get angry. Theres always some ways to cut corners and optimize everything withouth touching the standard. Then you see that the standard is really unappropiate for the problem, and that a simple change on the standard coud unlock freedom and speed. So you create a new protocol. But you find that such protocol break a lot of routers and proxys (very old, buggy, crappy, undocumented using, proxies). Then you see a person getting the same speed you have manage with your new standard, using the old standard in a new way. So you drop your new standard, because have a lot of problems, and is not really giving nothing new to the table. Then you learn to respect standards a lot more. Like I do.
So only once in a blue moon you see this history having a happy end. Lets hope this time we have it here.
Nah, thats the academia propaganda... or to be trycky, the academia "narrative".
A good way to see how "very important" learning X or Y is, is to see how different time period or locations have a different idea of what X and Y are equal to.
The part of the equation we normally ignore here, is that academia is shaped for and by professors. So at any time, universities are a fisical representation of the bias of the cultured people at the time. If people think that learning to use a musical instrument must be mandatory, then you have that in a university. So yes, academia is a lot about preserving ideas, bias and knowledge to the next generation. Is another self-perpetuation machine. But... is a beneficial machine? for the most part yes,...for years our cultural elite has ben spawn from these centres, and are functional people. So works.
University by itself, don't make much sense, but has a gear to transmit power to the next gear, is a important part of The System.
95 years? thats negating the right to use music that you have heard your whole life. Do these people voting understand why theres a limit? If anything must be lowered, since music can start creating profit sooner and with computer networks can be instant and worldwide. Music don't need to move in slow trucks anymore.. has ben accelerated.
I have the feeling this has ben caused by political corruption. Money from these music companies. I hope I am wrong.
and you probably use HH:MM:SS and not SS:MM:HH for hours.
1984 with the small thing first would be 4891
sorting dates with dd/mm/yyyy is a nightmare, because break cronological order. yyyy-mm-dd preserve the order.
and the use of / to separate dates is stupid too. / and 1 and 7 are too similar, so is confusing as hell... for something where we want precission and easy to read.
Not storing passwords is a good system to protect people privacy and safety.
And the very idea of banning *how* you protect people with software is stupid itself.
- Is stupid, because unenforceable laws are stupid. Banning something you cant enforce is wasting everybody time. - Is stupid because is not achieving what you probably want. If you want to be able to get the bad guys data, the bad guys can just use cleartext passwords, but cypher the actual data, so even if you get the password, you get a bunch of cyphered data.
So, what these laws exist for? is to peek into commercial mails from small size/medium size companies? why the France govern want to do that?
Wen I use a computer, I want raw power. A PC with Ubuntu will do. With windows... mostly.. I get angry at the lack of decent virtual desktop, but is almost there. But wen I want a tablet, I want usability. And Apple has that. I don't need my tablet to have 16 GB of RAM or any other stat. Is not about stat, is about the experience, and Apple has it. I suppose Android can get here, but I am unsure if thats what the Android people ask for... maybe Android is taking notes from Windows, and not from iOS.
There are literally more than 290.000.000 of ways to upload data to the internet. Blocking 2 gets you a list of 289.999.999 ways. On top of that, people can use his phones, usb drives, etc.
Proper safety stuff is *nothing* like that. Anyway could be a first step in a "defense in deep" protection, to achieve a 2% or 5% more protection.
After religion censure, political censure we get... commercial censure!. Not nice.
And this will not work.
Pirates are just underserved customers. These people want the products, but don't have a agrement about the price, and the pirates provide that and convenience, a channel to download the games. Often the pirate version of a game are better, since It remove online checks, disable DRM that slow the game, etc.
Also, there are something called "HACKER", and I am not talking about crackers. Hackers will *NOT* tolerate any censorship on the internet.
What type of country you want? do you want a country of consumers, or a country of producers? Do you have a big population that you want to be producers?, If you have choose a country of consumers, but you don't have a solution to give everyone jobs, you have choose unemployment and discontent.
This is the list made by the lobyist to flag "rogue countries". Is a political list. Is the way to tell these countries "We don't like your laws".
Well.. *I* don't like YOUR laws USA. Maybe you sould change a system that give more voice to the people with the dollars than the people than vote!? I am going to put USA on a list too.
There has always been a lot of piracy in games. I remember people trading games with tapes, back in the 8 bits. If you don't want to pay for the games you play, you can, and this is true since 1981 and back.
Steam sells millions games every day. The whole PC market is a 14 billions business. But apparently is invisible to the likes of you, because the PC is evolving to something different to what you know and understand to become more.
The people that create these flash, create flash slow enough to eat the 60% of the CPU of a Double Core 2 GHz. How much horsepower is the 60% of a Double Core 2 GHz: more than the horsepower than a mobile decide have. So that flash with almost stop the mobile device.
The only way so flash is usable in mobile devices, is if the people that make these flash test then in slow mobile devices, and decide to remove some effect, be conservative. Good luck with that, has the same problem hit PC's, and these people don't learn.
Adobe could, somehow, help here creating a special mode for the flash player called "Emulate slow device", so people could experience how shitty is his flash creation in a mobile device, but Adobe itself is lazy and will not provide that.
We on the PC already have that with Steamcloud. It make some sense, since not only the savegames follow you, but the whole games!.
You get home, and you can ask for download to Steam some games on the computer of your dad, and you will get the games and the savegames. And wen you get home, the savegames will follow you. Or maybe you have a netbook to, so you can start playing a game on the work (*cough*), continue on a laptop, and finish on your home. You can. But the feature is here: who cares about the hardware?, the data is the important thing, play where you have a computer, not where you have the files.
I can't see having any added feature for console users, well.. if the users only have 1 console, if have more than one Sony console, and maybe Steam, then maybe can get some nice juice from it.
I have used the iPad extensivelly, so I can label myself as iPad poweruser. Enough stress on the machine do result on problems, like the concurrent installation of multiple Apps, or running anything after the 2 bigger games currently (memory swapping?). For the most part, the 99.99% of the time, you will not need a "reset" button, but having one (the home) is very handy!. But theres that 0.01% time wen you *NEED* the home button.
Removing the home button is like removing Enter, ESC and the power button, from a PC. hopping for the best... that you can always resort to the mouse for these 3 functions.
Could you imagine a universe, where successive Pacman clones are more expensive, so the last one will cost 150 million dollars? Thats the MMORPG business for you. Cloning a formula that seems to work, in a very expensive way, for a public that is progressively more bored of the formula.
What make that hurt here even more, is that we don't want BioWare to die. Did a lot of great games, and we are really pleased of his work. These people really got talent and the exact formula of RPG fun.
To be honest, we don't know at this point if the game will be a success or not.
- Normal people can't tell the diference a scam and a honest page. The preferences are reverted, what you know is the honest page of a hacker (peple like Stallman, or the homepage of a project like MediaWiki) will look scary and dangerous, while will love a page full of flash ads, that probably are tryiing to install spyware.
- Normal people are the target of spammers. If you search for tecnical problems with ocropus, you will see less spam targeted at you. While if you search something popular like soccer of music... you will see a lot of shit.
- Normal people and spammers have similar mindset. Want everything withouth paying. Don't have any tecnical moral or respect for internet. Is not his home, so see not problem is shitting here, making internet worse. This bias spammers and normal people to the same areas of the internet.
You obviusly don't understand the point of technology, and Notch obviusly "get it".
Technology is at the service of awesomness, to make awesome things. Is not important if the netcode is awnfull, but what Notch did with it.
Also, you don't get what type of programmer seems Notch, he is a "jam creator", he create prototypes, original code very fast. This is important, because normally code is soo expensive and slow to crate, that by the time you have a idea implemented, everyone is already bored of the idea. He make real dreams while you are still sleeping.
All the games in the bundle are "old" in indie terms (even some that are unfinished!). And the bundle will have more reach than normally these games can get. So the net result is that you are selling old indie games to people that normally would have never even know these games exist (so for these people, the games are new).
And is a lot of money!,.. for indie devs. Is very few money for a game studio, laugdable at, but for 1 dude, or 2 dudes, is a lot.
And is not the only way to sell indie games. is a complement. So these bundles what have created is a oportunity to reach more people, and sell old indie titles *again*, and at the same time make a lot of money. So is Win-Win-Win-Win for the indie dev's.
Ridiculous.
Please USA, sort your shit. Internet must get cheaper, not more expensive!.
