Way to throw out a completely misleading headline there, Roland. "Pentagon Rules" makes it sound like some sort of government security issue. Add that to the barely intelligible article summary and we've got another bang-up article by the Pipsqueak blogger. At least he's back to linking his own shitty blog articles again, so we're further justified calling him out for his blatant slashvertisments. Zonk, either stop approving this shit, or give us a separate category for articles from Roland so we can remove them from our fucking front pages. Forget the stupid ajaxified comment system, I want to be able to filter articles based on submittor.

Ok, since your "bogometer" seems to go off at one of the most highly respected scientific publications, on the planet... let me do a little physics-to-layman translation for ya.

quanta: packets of things that are quantized, like, you know, everything that happens at the atomic scale
magnetic excitations: increase in magnetic energy, for example by periodically flipping the moment like an oscillator
    magnetically ordered: lined up
    ensemble: group of stuff
magnetic moments: little tiny magnets formed by the electron spin.

A photon is a quanta of light energy, an energy level in a hydrogen atom is a quantized electron orbit, and a magnon is a quanta of magnetic energy. It's described using perfectly normal terminology that most undergrad physics students should be comfortable with.

second life has a huge economy. sharing goes against the very fabric of their business model - you can exchange real life dollars for second life money. people can and do form entire businesses in second life to make real life money. every time one of these echanges is made, the game's publisher takes a share. that's why people are pissed about their designs being copied - it's actually costing them profits.

second life is about creating an artificial that somewhat models real life - paying for shit with your money is a big part of the real world.

Wow your one (extremely well built, since it's a mac *G*) computer establishes the behavior of all? It's not just a question of processor life, it's a question of all those little components in there. A well ventilated G4 tower might be able to run bulletproof for years, but a laptop or cheap PC might not. The point is, the heat is enough to bother the guy, and if they gave him an option to limit processor usage, he'd be more likely to help out.

In my case, it has nothing to do with worry about electronics wearing out - BUT I have a G5 powermac that's liquid cooled, and if that liquid cooling fails it's gonna be expensive to fix. I don't NEED all that processor power most of the time, so I expect to get a long life out of it - if it were kicking 24/7 I might be a bit more worried. Plus, when the processors are really firing, it sounds like a jet is taking off. I'd rather not have that sound droning in the background 24/7.

I know what the AC was attempting to say, but that's not what he ACTUALLY said. Force only correlates with energy if it's applied over a distance or there's a varying potential field. When you say X cannot exceed Y, X and Y need to have the same units, or you're just talking gibberish.
