I found when I upgraded from iOS3 to iOS4 on my 1st gen iPad it caused it to work sluggishly. I was considering going back to iOS3 if possible and I'm even more afraid to go to iOS5. I got the iPad at xmas and not even 6 months in I felt I'm already behind in performance.
I agree completely.
I watched The Phantom Menace again not long ago with my 3 year old with the assumption that I was going to hate it as much as I hated it the first time I saw it when it came out. Surprisingly, I didn't find it as bad as I remembered it and the acting reminded me of the wooden acting of the original trilogy as well. Was Marc Hamill really that much better as the centre role? Is Jar Jar really that much more annoying than C3PO? After an hour or so, my son was disinterested (especially during the dialogue scenes) and I actually coaxed him to watch the rest of it because I was still curious to see rest of the film!
They're not outright saying they are limiting access to information but to give customers the option to prioritize certain services. From TFA:
Today that concept of "differentiated services" is referred to as DiffServ. It's part of quality-of-service technologies that companies like AT&T offer, usually to business customers, that rely on DiffServ packet headers to group different types of classes of service together. Real-time voice communication may be ranked the highest, followed by financial transactions, then e-mail, and finally bulk file-transfer protocols that aren't as sensitive to brief slowdowns.
Which other notions from computer science can be introduced to this audience in this manner?
I think an introduction to the history of computer science would be worthwhile. Knowing the history of a subject helps with understanding the present state of it and helps give context for the content to be learned.
I used to play this game all the time in high school. I installed the port and played it for 40 minutes just now. I needed to tear myself away it was so fun! I still remembered the little tricks like lagging behind for the first quarter of the first lap so the other cars would deplete their ammo on themselves instead of you. And I never realized that the item on the track that got you "drunk" was actually a mushroom!
I work in post-production audio/video and I'm positive my boss will be drool over this 12-core. Anything that can pump out RED camera footage faster is a plus.
Would these ultra cool brown dwarves serve in putting more fruit to dark matter theories?
That's crazy!
Apes!
I'll try that. Thanks. iOS4 hasn't made it unusable, but it did cause some apps to be less responsive.
Yes, I tend to agree with that. Once the 1st gen iPad gets practically obsolete, maybe installing Android through OpeniBoot will be a viable option.

Welcome to science. I would deem this a big success!

Mod up! The idea of corporations and telcos creating the problem for their own favour is a very strong idea. They are not trying to FIX anything!
This seems hardly worth mentioning. It was one small study done for amusement. No earth has been shattered here.
mp3.com? didn't that die as fast as Fred Durst's star power?
This is probably the first time -- and last time -- a Chris Isaak song is used for an Iranian nuclear program parody.
A remake of Quake with all the same levels, monsters and gameplay, but with just the rendering quality updated, would be my perfect game.
Tenebrae
Darkplaces
I wonder how well it would do in blindfolded chess?

What is it about old rock stars who disavow their youthful ways?
Massive financial success.
I know doctors and you, sir, are no doctor.

No see, here's an example:
Hong Kong? I thought this would have been a first in Bangkok!
76 comments in and not one Bangkok joke.

You're right. We have Red Rocket. What do I know, I'm in audio!
