I have tried Ubuntu three times. And each time I've had problems with video and/or audio and updates.
I have an older ATI AGP x850 video card which ATI's Linux driver doesn't support and the open driver doesn't cut it for gaming at all. This isn't the Ubuntu team's fault, but it doesn't help with wanting to try any Linux distro really.
I also have an M-Audio Fasttrack Pro audio device that caused problems in Ubuntu, but the latest release had fixed those.
And the major updates always break something. It's usually permissions problems for some reason. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I don't tinker in the CLI enough to cause havoc. I would usually tinker with my video related confs to get the damn thing working.
So I've given up, I still have my WinXP SP3 installed which simply works most of the time. It's not ideal, but at least I can use Pro Tools and play games with pretty graphics once in a while.
I like the concept and the look of the game. I'd love to try it. But I'm very afraid of getting trapped into the Noctis V waiting game with Love. Noctis IV is a great open ended space simulation "game" where you simply explore stars, planets and moons in a galaxy. it was released over 10 years ago and people are still charting and naming celestial bodies today. it run in DOS and fits on a floppy. and it was all done by one brilliant person: Alessandro Ghignola.
and so, when he showed some screen shots of the next release, Noctis V, we all flipped and waited eagerly for a beta or anything playable. that was 8 years ago.
Love looks really good, but my heart has already been broken in the past by another. so i'm not going to get my hopes up right now.
to play a game where you're an insect in a realistic physical 3d environment. like being a fly in a bus. or an ant on a kitchen counter. i don't really care for goals other than having to eat, breed, compete for both and whatever else insects need to do. i'm sure someone has thought of this already.
AFAIK ads no longer expect users to click beacuse they are mostly there to burn the brand name into your brain. Billboards and TV ads don't require the viewer to look into more detailled information either.
then why do i have 6 different types of fleshlights coming to me within the next 2 months? and where's the fleshlight Wiimouse i've been fantasizing about? these ads should be on top of that.
Ok we don't need to make this personal (although I've got to admit that seeing the word 'dicklicker' did make me laugh), but yes, you are correct. We can figure out with a great deal of precision the relative position of the Earth, Sun, and Moon many centuries in advance, so this will indeed be the longest solar eclipse that the Earth will see this century.
i don't Twitter or have a Facebook page. I do have a Myspace page for my music, but i visit it maybe once or twice every 2 weeks to automatically allow all friends, reply to the odd mail message and delete spam. so i don't have much of an addiction to social networking.
MY big addiction is reading/. comments! i should be working right now!! i'm sure others are in the same boat, ammarite??
stop being so interesting/informative/insightful/funny!
i agree with you on some points about Oblivion, but the critiques you have of it's gameplay have been taken care of in a number of mods. Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul mod has removed level scaling and brought back the original gameplay of Daggerfall amongst a lot more changes. i couldn't imagine playing Oblivion without the mod as it has made a decent game into a brilliant one.
put a handheld game for your character to play (which you play) while walking, running, flying, etc. i think playing some chess while traveling would be pretty nice at times.
the Herschel Space Observatory is suppose to help with that very problem by being able to detect much colder parts of the universe. it even has the ability to observe structural detail by detecting water.
while it's possible that water isn't essential, it's a good start to finding something close to what we would deam a living thing. if i'm looking for potatoes, i wouldn't be looking up in the trees.
For a long-lived career, does a boot-strapping indie artist with giant niche appeal gain enough from a big-company relationship to offset the loss in agility, equity, and flexibility?
No, but you need to be able to actually do things live. Mashups won't make you any money, unless, of course, you can sell them, which you can't do if they aren't IP-clean.
This is exactly what I want to see when I go to a movie like this. A lot of testosterone based action! Anyone looking for some sort of deep statement regarding the "post-9/11" world is looking in the wrong place.
The sad thing is that there are many people who feel the same way. So many infact that movies like Collateral Damage and Snow Dogs hit #1 at the box office. That's a lot of people who need to be entertained instead of enlightened.
A focused group of disgruntled users can get together and hook up with cheap microwave 6megabit (Full Duplex/$800monthCAD) and 802.11b their enemy ISP into the grave.
Punish the Evil Doers;)

Is this really a game? It doesn't sound entertaining.
We need:
The Hormonally Abnormal Olympics
The Clone Olympics (identical twins, triplets, etc.)
The Trans Olympics
The Hermaphrodite Olympics
Well! Goodbye Gopher! Hello RockMelt! I'm gonna party like it's 1993!

thank you! those two suggestions seem worthwhile.

excuse my ignorance, but what causes the impact area to be black?
maybe the Earth did, but I didn't. :(
how about a Katamari Damacy themed MMORPG? "Dzie Dobry, loser Prince! Roll up that person's cat for me and I'll give you a scarf!"
Bradbury was right about the wet part at least!

i wish i could mod everyone offtopic! less rabbit, more Planck telescope!

this ship should help with bumping you up that list.

have ANY of you heard of DJ Shadow's Endtroducing? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endtroducing.....
I think he summed up my feelings about Futurama:
'It stinks!'
Hah, I'm so funny I could have my own adult oriented animated program on FOX!
..just watch the international coverage of the war in afghanistan. SICK OF AMERICA
