You're right. I must have been thinking of something else. I don't think it has multi-touch, though, so that reduces the types of gestures you can use, and I still think that makes a difference. What Google should do is basically copy what Apple are doing in such a way that won't get them sued (or, a way to win the lawsuit). As much as I still prefer the iPhone over anything else at the moment, there really needs to be some good competition to make sure that Apple is kept in line. If it's good enough, even I might switch back.

But it is intuitive, because next time you get an app that has something to do with photos, and it lets you view them fullscreen, chances are that it will respond the same way to the pinch gesture. That's intuitive to me. Using your very strict definition of intuitive, the nipple is the only intuitive interface, so we should never, ever use the word intuitive in computing (unless you design a nipple interface).

I think it has more to do with using an old touchscreen. You know, the ones with a stylus. Apple are winning a lot of people on their new touchscreen alone, because it really is much better than a traditional touchscreen for most people, especially when you take into account their gesture system and tight integration into the system.

Given that this is a kinetic sculpture, such a high match may not be required, but then again, this guy might have a pretty good idea of what he wants. And as for gears, they are not as simple as they seem depending on the application. You only need to be out by fractions on a few specs for them to not work as intended.

Overpriced to you, perhaps, but that's because people have different values. Macs are on the pricier side, but I wouldn't say they were overpriced, because you get what you pay for. I had a look at some of their laptops, and the thinner ones were so flimsy that you could twist the displays quite far just gently using your index fingers. And in my experience, Apple has less lock-in that Microsoft when it comes to your data. Besides, even though there are more choices in the PC world, I haven't found any of them to be as good as Apple. When there are, I may consider switching back if I think Apple has gone too far.

Perhaps they will restrict it to there "Pro" line, but if you think it's going to get ditched for USB, you are mistaken and don't understand the FireWire specs or market. USB still isn't good enough for some things compared to what FireWire offers. Yeah, it's a niche, but that doesn't mean it's irrelevant.

If you do get a FireWire drive, make sure it also has USB -- many (perhaps even most) FireWire enclosures have both. Then you get to enjoy FireWire and also have compatibility.

Also, the FireWire that comes on many PCs is often only the 4 pin connector that has no powered bus, meaning 2.5" drive enclosures require the power adapter, which doesn't help its popularity in the PC world. And then there are the other features that you don't find in the PC FireWire world, such as being able to turn you computer into an external drive by rebooting in Target Disk Mode (very handy), and even running IP over it. This is why so many users are pissed-off about the Macbook losing FireWire -- it does so much more on a Mac than either USB or FireWire does in the PC world.
