    The Cray name was bought from SGI by Tera. SGI was later bought by Rackable.

    When 90% of the wealth is this country is controlled by 3% of its people (I honestly don't know the exact figure), the boycott you espouse is just as futile as you believe the street protests to be.

    Actually, it evens out. Since the fuel is obtained from plant matter, a large amount of CO2 is taken out of the atmosphere to create that plant matter. Petroleum taken out of the ground is bringing the greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere without taking any out.

    Most people have forgotten or are in denial about this. Gates does have excellent PR people. Microsoft's entire business model is based on leveraging their desktop monopoly. If that foundation erodes or becomes irrelevant, they are done. Gates built the business this way from the very start, and I doubt he has the vision to come up with something new.

    1Gb/s? If you live in Korea or Japan, sure. But in the US? Not for a while. Last mile providers have us over a barrel and they know it. They don't want to be forced to upgrade all their switching gear to provide everybody with that kind of bandwidth.

    I was a huge Marathon fan. We had a lot of Marathon LAN parties back in the day. I screamed bloody murder when MIcrosoft bought Bungie. But I played the single player Halo when the Xbox was first released anyway. I remember being on the island, looking for the crashed dropship. At the crash site there were a bunch of boxes strewn about. I went closer to investigate. One of the boxes had writing on it... SPNKR Those letters brought tears to my eyes.

    While they make it sound like it is very easy to just throw more CPUs at the problem, my question is...

    How are they going to power and cool all of those CPUs?

    If SL currently runs on nearly 2600 machines, and each of those consumes a meager 200 watts, you would need about 520kW to power them.

    The power needed to cool the machines is even greater.

    How much power and cooling capacity does their data center have? What will they do when the run out?
