    Isn't this an antitrust violation? If just bundling a web browser was then surely changing the user's preferred apps to their own and opting users in to advertisements they've already opted out of in the guise of a security update ought to be.

    Even if it isn't rare, and human-like civilization also isn't rare, there's still no guarantee that we would have heard from them by now. Our own radio signals have only reached a tiny fraction of our galaxy, which is just one out of hundreds of billions. The Universe is just so stupefyingly, mind-blowingly enormous it's hard to say how common advanced civilizations are based on evidence from the scant few decades we've been listening for them.

    The other day I also noticed their text ads sometimes now have contact forms in them with my email address pre-populated. In response I turned off the option in my ad blocker that allowed their text ads. Advertisers are idiots.

    Shifting half the expense to the device and half the expense to the cable isn't cheaper, it's just moving costs.

    That's only true if there's a 1:1 relationship between tablets and cables.

    Ubuntu was demoing an Android port at CES this year, which sounds as though it runs in something like a chroot jail. The idea seems to be to hook your phone up to a monitor to display Linux apps, but it seems at least conceivable that they could display on the phone's screen if you could get around the usability issues.
