I don't see a problem with it. It prevents piracy and also leads to many *schools* to purchase more then 1 copy from me, as I can easily proove from my logs. I don't write to people's boot sectors or anything though - just some simple DSA PKI.
Hire poor college kids to wade thru the validation requests and manually get your spam thru. I'm sure it will happen if spammers really want to get their message thru.
That peak bandwidth assumes mostly sequential reads. In reality the latency figure is based around the 200MHz clock and probably more important towards overall performance.
if you are developing software you expect people to download, like me,.NET forces users to get a 23meg runtime from microsoft! No modem user is going to take that seriously, so if I want people to even glance at my trial vesion, it needs to be small enough to download. VB6 runtimes are small enough to not piss off most modem users now, so I am forced basically to stick with VS 98 until all versions of windows for the last 10 years have CAME with.net already installed.
I didn't complain with somebody stole my name. We both make software products, I happened to be around first, and they also happen to be a larger company with many more users, but we both have the name trademarked. The key is that the trademarks only apply to the usage of the name, and even as both being software, the usage is definately different enough that they can keep using it and there is nothing I can do about it.
Isn't Looksmart/Sprinks a big pay-per-listing deal? The looksmart logo in the upper right corner was enough to make me just close that page right away without any second thought.
Dont use wildcard addresses, you must manually create a new email address every time you need to give one out. Its as easy as: echo virtualprefix-newemailaddress: realemailbox >/etc/aliases ; newaliases
The logical step would be rather to implement the X Server on seperate hardware, i.e. the graphics card.
Doesnt windows do this for some of its drawing? Im not talking about directX or anything 3D, just regular window repainting. I thought that there were 2D accelerator functions built into video cards for years now that speed windows up. But, maybe X uses those same functions too, I dont know..
Who needs bnetd? If you want to play a game over the internet with your friends as a LAN style game over a wide area network, just tunnel the UDP broadcast packets from the server to the clients. Its simple.
As I understand it, there were function signatures (linking information) indendical to all the functions from certain pieces of Linux kernel code. After their first request for source under GPL, they removed that information but the rest of the binary code remained unchanged. I would consider that pretty strong proof that they are knowingly stealing from the Linux kernel.
June 20, 2003 does seem to be correct, but that is still very close! I had somebody point out to me that there was an overlap period when the law was changed from issue+17 to file+20 where some old patents would get whichever of the two dates was longer, and in this case file+20 is longer, so LZW isnt free until June 20, 2003. Mark your calendars!
320x240 For some really strange reason, people think its neat to measure LCD screens with one or two letters followed by "GA" each different letter combination refers to a different screen size.
I agree - I was like "wtf is snood??" until I clicked on the frozen-bubble link and saw the screenshots. Immediately, I thought "OHhhh! they mean 'Bust a Move'!"
I'll give you the pepsi being crap and the weasel going pop, but soda is still a white powder that makes my fridge smell nicer and coke is the red cans in the fridge from which I drink pop.

I don't think they ever had to stand up for their rights.
So does The Matrix and Starwards... what I want to know is why Futurama doesn't have its own catagory :)

I think that qualifies as simultainiously breaking all 3 "rules" ...

You bake with soda, you drink pop. Coke is a brand of pop, like Pepsi is also a brand of pop.
K looks even worse then M (Cache') for a DB language. /dev/urandom > example.k`
