Sure, they'll pick up the merchandising from Toy Story, Bugs Life, Nemo etc. but that stuff doesn't hang around in the stores very long UNLESS you get another movie sequel to bring it all back in again.
This seems to make sense, but then again, when was the last time you saw Mickey Mouse in anything? I seem to still see an awful lot of Mickey Mouse branded toys, etc...
We have competition in my town (a suburb west of Boston). Comcast still blows. Price raises EVERY_SINGLE_MONTH. I am finally paying $290 a month for phone, cable modem, and digital TV (with NOT A SINGLE premium channel!). I know of people with the same service in other towns from Comcast paying $200 (or less), even in towns with no competition. Why? Who knows. Perhaps because the twon is considered "snooty". I cancelled earlier this week, and am switching to the competition (RCN). Half price.

You can play music, just not in a particular format. Just like in my example, I could make DVD's of home movies and run searches on my Windows box, just not using the particular method I prefer. You can still play MP3's, Ogg files, etc. on your Linux box.
they don't want to use the media on a Windows or Macintosh computer
I really want to use iMovie and Sherlock, but I don't want to use them on a Macintosh, I like my Windows machine. I'm out of luck. There's nothing forcing Apple to make Windows versions of this software because I want it. If I want it bad enough, I have to buy a Mac. Just as a company can't force you to buy something, you as a customer can't force them to make something!
know nothing about video game history and/or economics
How many Atari 2600's were out there in 1977?
How many PS2's are out there today>
It's called Economies of Scale. According to Economic theory, shouldn't games be cheaper now? Or maybe not, since there's historical proof that people will pay these outrageous amounts.
I think a few $500k fines thrown about would quickly make it worth some major broadcaster's while to challenge this in court. $27k wasn't. This could be enough though.
I checked that site (nice watches) and was disappointed to see, once again, a watch with Roman numerals and an incorrect 4 ("IIII" instead of "IV"). Why is that always the case?!?!?
Winged Migration is INCREDIBLE. I just rented the DVD two nights ago, and to be honest the "Making Of" featurette was my favorite part of the disc. I was stunned with what they had done to make this movie. I won't give it away, but buy/rent the DVD and watch it.
I happily use my Fortran 77 reference as a doorstop.
See, you CAN use those two words in the same sentence!
It's so phildickian
Thank you for coining my favorite new adjective. I'm going to strive to fit it into conversation (awkwardly, no doubt) at least once a day.
MOM, stop being so phildickian!

discover intelligent life immeasurably inferior to ourselves
You mean like at a NASCAR race?
you probably count them on less than one hand.
Nice to have that other hand free to, uh, "research" the nudity, eh?
They provide my long distance too. Phone runs about $140, cable (TV and modem combined) about $150.

Yes, but only once (when you throw it off the roof).

I 100% agree with you, BUT:

Again, I agree, in an ideal world...
A banjo is better tuned with a hammer. (Sorry... my wife plays banjo)
You've just invented a very fun drinking game there.

You are my new hero. THANK YOU!
Can of Bud sitting right here in front of me. 5.0% alc/vol it says. Never seen one that says otherwise. In MA.
I had this job once where they expected actual output! And they wouldn't pay me unless I "produced" something!

Thank goodness that nightmare ended and now I can suff

That is one of the coolest oxymorons I think I've ever seen!
Not busting on you by the way, I'm sure it was unintentional

Watch out for subway gropers!
Fung-Wah Bus, $20 round trip.
Yeah, but I thought all those promises of "outsourcing to India" were going to result in cheaper geese!
