Then, they'll expand this program, and give them weapons, and have droid control ships, and then this kid'll fly inside one and accidentaly blow it up, and he'll be a hero. . .
It could be that you tried this after MS released the definition file that fixes the problem, and prior to that you hadn't updated since before the broken file came out.
Just because you didn't get hit doesn't mean no one was firing.:)
It's really faily trivial to abstract out DB access into a seperate file in PHP, and make the whole app DB-independant. I've already done this on two apps I wrote and am in the process of doing so on a third. I supports MySQL and PostgreSQL and could support more, if requested. Wanna buy my DB2 or Oracle licenses?:)
I normally don't reply to flaming ACs, but I'll bite.
Have you actually USED PHP, Ruby, or Python? I've never used Ruby, but PHP and Python are far faster than I've ever needed them to be. Java, on the other hand, is only fast on new hardware. And don't get me started on backwards-compatibility. . .
B> I recently upgraded the software linked to in my sig to support PostgreSQL in addition to MySQL. Non-trivial, but the afternoon was worth it. Granted, it's a smaller application than Wordpress, but in doing so, I've created a framework I can use in any PHP application, and add support for additional RDBMSs as well. A worthwhile exercise.
Honestly, do you have to troll on EVERY science-related article on/. today? As you yourself said, science is a process of constructing hypotheses, collecting evidence, building theories, and continuing testing. Some theories get altered or outright trashed by evidence, but that's how we make scientific progress. All scientists act upon the best information they have, while trying to in turn collect more information.
As to your comment about paying for science "involuntarily" and "laws and restrictions", what do you propose? All science be private? Fine. Give back the Internet. As for basing regulations on uncertain science, what do you propose? Basing regulations on, say, the bible? O.o? Are you insane?
Score one for the "I like violent viedo games but won't let my kids play them until they're actually old and mature enough" crowd. While I think a lot of the games out these days are crap, I still think any sort of ban is ridiculous. Good parenting is more than sufficient. Use a rating system, fine, but a ban is stupid.
1. Use WindowMaker.
2. Do everything in xterms, no actual x apps. Mutt, Lynx, you get the idea. MySQL command-line client for DB work.
3. Spend Sunday reading/., since nothing new will be posted, and you'll actually have to work.;)
I just hope we don't have a resurgence of the "George Lucas is raping my childhood" posts. Only this time, it'll be "George Lucas is gang-banging my childhood".
Seriously though, this'd be a cool thing to watch, but distribution has got to be WAY illegal.
I wonder if insurance companies charge more for smokers as compared to non-smokers.
Most do. My company had us fill out a form and get it signed by our doctors. If we get certified as non-tobacco by our doctors, we get a break on premiums.

Sorry. C.P.U.'s still refers to something belonging to the C.P.U. The periods don't change the grammar.
Just because you didn't get hit doesn't mean no one was firing. :)
. . .to call in sick.
I prototype stuff on legal padds during slow times at work and write code at home. Does that count?
Loved it on the SNES. Too bad I traded it to a friend of mine after I beat it. Most fluid motion I've ever seen in a platformer.

3 times, actually. Which actually reinforces your point. :) Having the great red spot here would SO suck.
Looks potentially nasty.

Ooh, yes! Let's determine tax rates by rolls of 3d10, and elections by something more robust, like 8d12. :)

The problem is that you can't, by the Act's very nature.
If you need more complex system/router data, Cacti is a really good way to centralize the collection of SNMP data.
It worked.
See this if you're confused.
Fine, (insert Mustafar joke here)
(ducks)

Also, I am male. Hence, the second portion of the joke's 1-2 punch. :)
If I wear jeans, how can anyone tell if I'm wearing a thong? :)
