You actually don't have to know anything about the insides of a computer to get a CS degree. Yeah, add a stick of RAM. Congrats, you get to be an underappreciated, underpayed, and overwhelmed IT "electronic janitor". I hate computers, but I love programming & logic. I could give a shit what new hardware is out on the market, or how to overclock my computer, or how to diagnose a bad BIOS.
Of course, you learn some of that just by it rubbing off on you, but really theres no reason. If something goes wrong, I call IT and they come fix it. So just because someone doesn't know why AOL is crashing (why are they using AOL in the first place???:) doesn't mean they couldn't school you in a programming contest. (And of course, you could whip out a standard 5-10 page essay on the use of color metaphores in modern poetry in the time it took them to look up 'metaphore' on Google)
Well, to answer my own question, nothing. IHPW.NETA (I have played with.NET alot), and there aren't any security features that would be hidden by encapsulation. That would be rediculous. Basically, this is something you can fiddle around with in memory, just like any C++ object. Anyone trying to pull it of as a security hole instead of a clever hack to expose some hidden.NET functionality is spreading FUD.
I thought all light saber fights were fake. Unless the fanboys have finally taken it too far...God help us all!

Uhh, GTA3 + vice City???
Or were you just talking about Microsoft. I'd say Considering Sony has 6 times the consoles out there they're doing something right. And show me anything in the current Nintendo crop that beats the simplicity and fun factor of GTA3? Even Myramoto agrees to that (see his recent E3 interview)
Not only does the author get Moore's Law wrong, but somehow manages blame the doubling of computer power every 18 months to crappy dot-com's with no viable business models going bankrupt.
Cg isn't C. Its not an extension to C, where you would call a Cg function from a C function, and compile it all into a program. Cg compiles to its own bytecode which is loaded into the graphics processor at runtime. I don't know if extending GCC would work/be a good idea. However, an open source compiler from NVidia that can work on multiple platforms (not just DX9!) would be a good idea. Especially if they're looking for it to be accepted by the community as a standard.
Its called "women" Once a hacker discovers them, he is powerless and forgets all about hacking. Fortunately the use of "women" isn't very widespread, so the saftey and security of Linux is safe.
When are we going to have lightweight head mounted displays for personal use? No backlighting to worry about, lower power consumption, gigantic resolution, and the best form factor of any laptop - 0. Match it with a pair of data gloves to make a virtual keyboard, and you've got the smallest, most portable keyboard around. How big can these monitors get before we start having to lug around generators on our backs to power the damn things?
Completely false. The massive parallelism of the brain allows it to do parallel operations quickly (pattern recognition, etc) The switching speed of the brain is much much slower than todays transistors, making it dogmeat compared to a modern CPU for raw computing power.
True that there is some very low level code (a sister-post pointed out the existance of some kernel stuff), but the fact remains its not "running windows" in any sense of the matter that the parent post put it. When you say "running windows" (esp. here, but a lot of places) that puts up the connotation that its going to blue screen or have IIS with security holes or something. It runs Windows about as much as it runs DX8 - there's similarities, but its an embedded system custom tuned and hardened for a very specific hardware set and task.
"pedantic semantic distintion":) Really rolls of the tounge!
p.s. Windows or not, its all how you use it. I'll take the XBox XDK 7 days a week over the shitty PS2 dev system. UGH!
It doesn't run Windows. It has APIs that look like windows calls to access the underlying hardware. There's no process management, no VM, and there isn't any OS stored on that hard drive. Your disk has the API libs on it, just like any console.
Dude, chill out. Its a computer not a way of life. Think of it as an appliance--like a toaster. Are you going to stand by the toaster you bought, no matter if it won't do the big thick bagels you like?
FUCK those companies for not making thin bagels. I guess Sara Lee doesn't want my money!
Sounds rediculous, but really, don't get religous about a machine.
Riiiiight....not the center of the universe...please name a country that has been worried over, fought over, looked to for, etc since 1950. You can't. I'm not saying that trends don't start elseware, and that this _isn't_ a signifigant tbing for Linux vs. M$, its just that in the battle for acceptance over M$, it has to be the current leader (U.S.) or no one else to lead the charge. Steps like these, however, will certainly inspire others inside the "keep of the evil giant". GO Denmark!
Riiiight. That's why it takes the person at the ticket counter 25 minutes and 4000 key strokes to find my reservation, which I made in 5 minutes on a website.

What security stuff does .NET depend on using encapsulation?

Doesn't being geeky also involve having some fun and playing with your toys in a non-practical way?
I hope so. There has to be some benefit in exchange for women.

I believe they are going to release a Renderware->CG translator for the NV cards, so yes, you'll be able to use them for graphics processing.
FP?
You mean people two hundred years from now won't know Britney Spears and N'Sync existed?
Hmmm...there's one song that comes to mind, and it goes something like "We don't need no water/Let the mother fucker burn..."
Thanks. Now please name one that could take on two major fronts at the same time?

Actually, I believe in 10 years its supposed to be Jaws 17, at least according to Back to the Future II. They better get started on Jaws 4!
Yeah, goatse.cx guy, you weren't affected at all ;)

I make a Tradewars2002 helper for java.
Its even open source!

Oh man, I can just see him snapping his rainbow colored suspenders when saying this...
He will not look much further for other choices, as his needs are met by it.
If his needs are met, why should he look any further?
