Are you implying that an industry would turn down something free (as in beer)?
I think what he means is that a typical suit doesn't believe in the 'no-strings-attached'. A suit usually work for money and think money. Anything that isn't in this realm of thinking is mysterious to them
"How can you can a product/service without spending ressources? How can such a thing survive?"
It's not that they will never adopt Linux, it's just that they can't project anything about it. If everything was Capitalism this 'linux' thing wouldn't be. So why is it? They can't quite grasp the concept of altruism or doing things 'for fun' because they gave up this concept of 'fun' years ago.
At least, this is what I see from personnal experience... Once you get high enough in any buisness, you tend to lose touch with the 'hard' reality and everything becomes numbers: Spendings, profits, time, etc... And it's becoming hard for them to see what they exactly do... it's just money going around.... Well, except for Linux...
Well, appart from those annoying (too often repeated) commercial about stating that 'DAB delived Cd-quality sound' and 'complementary information', it didn't change a single thing.
I don't even know a single soul who bought a DAB enable receiver...
And I just learned (by the link in the parent post) that 7 local radio station supports DAB, while I only heard those annoying commercials in 1.
I would say that it seems a serious trend since maybe 12-18 months[...]
Then can you tell if most of these jobs are going to be low-level entry (ex:Call Center) or higher level support contrats or Developpement? I heard that a lot of companies are looking for 'Remote help assistants' (Read: call centers tech support)...
In Fallout, all the wildly different characters I've tried, the only thing that can break a new character off-the-bat is crappy perception.
You never played a character at 1 Intelligence did you?
Altought it doesn't break the character, it does make the game experience weird... Most subquests are blocked, Some people don't even talk to you, and , if you don't want to kill good guys, you have to take buffouts to gain certain important main quests...
It's still cool at the start of Fallout2 'tough. Everyone in your village calls you 'the Dumb one' and you get a funny conversation with Torr about Bugmens and moo-moos:)
Yes, that is what the legit people would use this tool for. But for every 1 person who is honestly using it for its "intended" purpose, there are 100 script kiddies using it to cause problems.
...And 1000 one who, like will use it to play joke on unsuspecting Buiness students from the across the campus:)
But it's not going to kill off the entire species, now is it?
Maybe yes, maybe no. Maybe Species X will disapeer and be replace by Species Y+1. But the problem is, will we know the planet will likely survive a lot of transformations, we may not....
And thoses transformation may spell doom for eco-diversity, but not life itself. You still have 'life' if there only microbes on the surface of the earth.
So, yeah, evolution is cool and all, but it has its limits... (If earth get as hot as Venus, for exemple, I doubt much species will adapt...)
Actually, Wal Mart may be the only existing Megacorp that doesn't have some sort of hiden agenda(patents and stuff)... And the only one who don't think of getting more money from screwing customers, but instead aim for higher sales numbers...
I don't say they are clean, but they are MUCH better than a lot of corporation in the sense they don't charge the customer, but pressure the distribution and manifacturing level
And my personal favorite for getting the steam pouring out of their ears: ask them to think on their feet. Give them a weird scenario (server rebooting every 5 minutes on its own), and ask them how they'd troubleshoot it.
Even better: bring them a broken computer. You can learn a lot when you have to do forensic on a computer.("why is my connection so slow?" "You've got 5 worms and 10 spyware in there")
And I had this 5min reboot scenario in the past... got a whole network of computer rebooting every 5 min(no worms involved). De-constructing the file dumps is fun when the computer reboots all the time...Wheee! (We did get a machine stable by disabling everything)
I WOULD be typping this from a computer running on a Voodoo3 2000 if I wasn't stuck at work... It works fine on WinXP... really... you just have to spend some time tweaking
Granted your point is still valid as I had to use a 3rd paty driver (fan made) to run UT, Homeworld and the like...
Well, in french there is no confusion surronding the word 'free' so there is no need to use 'Open Source'...
'Logiciel libre' even sound better than 'Logiciel à source ouvert'
So french publication usually use does the opposite of the English publication: using 'Logiciel Libre' (Free Software) to designate Both Free Software and Open Source Software...
He refers in fact to this:9 /

And I do believe the answer to his question is in his Sig...
Thank you!
Well thank YOU for answering concerns directly on Slashdot and not hiding under a rock somewhere.
And good luck with your buisness.
There is a ~140 meg Stand alone install... but you wind up downloading EVERYTHING and no just what your computer needs...

Same is true for SP2...

Yeah, when there's a blackout.. Like last year... around this very day... :)
Australia itself is an ecological disaster. It's the perfect case to study for any type of animal introduction into foreign soil.
you can check out,for instance story about:
Rabits in Australia
Mices in Australia
And a not-so-bad story about
Camels in Australia
Of course, i'm no Aussie, i'm just a Canuck... i'm sure the locals can provide a lot more exemples

My girl improved her grip without the rubber so I don't know wha.. wait.
/me Get a mental image of Controller wrapped in condoms...
This is a game controller? Eh *tries to recover* who said love wasn't a game?
Try not to use the lubricated ones... Things could get slippery...
kinda reminds me of that 'game vibrator'...
You forgot to name Final Fantas... What, you mean it's 'board games'? What are those?
Well, you COULD add a Head to Dexter but it would probably be pretty scarry...

Yes, clearly. Americans need to be afraid of MORE things.
I think they should be more affraid of the 'Wave' of Hollywood crappy movies this is gonna create...
It's been 10 years, but I think the proper syntax is
Anyone want a Commodore 64? I got one for sell, been playing to much with it I'm afraid...

(wonders about the prospects of Cutie Honey in the same vein.)
:)
You mean like This movie?
You just missed it
My guess is, this guys is a student stuck with dorm Net access... just like me:
Behind a firewall, with 10gig/month at 30$CAN... But you get Uni Access which is blinding fast...
Tried them on WinXP?
:)

And it was automagicaly working in Mandrake 10
It would be trivial to set it up so that double-clicking a tar ball in kde or gnome would launch an installer script
:)
Something like Kconfigure might do the trick...
Of course, it's not as easy as InstallShield(tm) but it's still kinda cool
Any news on a Canadian equivalent?
(or simply somewhere where i could contribute...)

VZW turned them both off for some reason.
2 words: Support Costs...
