    My 60 years parents. It was hard enough to convince them to get Dial-up at 120$/year... I don't think they'll switch anytime soon

    Maybe but while the combined population of all these country is about a third of all US population, The total broadband users of these 3 combined is HIGHER than the number of broadband users in the US.

    I would blame the large distance to cover in the US but it still doesn't explain why Canada a pourcentage twice higher...

    Hell, I live in Montreal, and i only know one 'household' without broadband...

    Of course we all know these number are just that... numbers... You can make statistics say almost anything :)

    100% right!

    It's basicly because it's never really been an Hardware problem but an API problem.

    Modern application aren't programed for a platform but for an API. That's the reason that Debain runs on several architecture, but you basicly just have to recompile for the same API on a deffirent architecture.

    Of course, that's just the theory. Reality(tm) is more complicated than that... but you get my point...

    I was thinking about FeRAM technology which doesn't need any refresh cycle (except when read), and thus no battery...

    With high speed read/write access, It's 'The Future in Non-Volatile Memory(tm)'.

    As for SRAM (or DRAM) being used as NVRAM, I knew that well: I own a Palm Pilot! Or course, if the battery dies on that thing, everything is gone...

    But /. being what it is, I just didn't do any research and wrote the comment like I was an expert in the field and knew my trade...

    This is what the big buzz around NVRAM is: Non-volatile! Doesn't need any refreshing or battery!

    (and still as fast as ordinary RAM)

    I know some members of that team and the actual aim is FAR better resolution .The big problem seems to be finding ressources(money,graduate students, etc)
    The market also seem to have a bigger interest in their research involving the bladder

    I heard something similar about a joint Canadian/American exercise.

    The exercise was to take the enemy base camp with minimum casualty. The Americans decided to attack at night, wearing dark equipement to avoid being seen...

    Well, In Canada, there is this thing called 'Snow' that is all white...

    The Canadian had taken positions and half-buried themselves under snow. They simply waited and took out the Americans at point-blank range...

    Notes:
    a) Heard the American regiment was from the south... which would explain the mistake (And probably the reason why they where training for winter exercises)
    b)Might be just an Urban Legend...

    Actually, I believe this system would be pretty much scallable to the US.

    You only need X% of the population that count the ballots and (X/10)% of the population that received and tally the votes from the differents ballots...

    At 3 person per ballot and 200 ballots for 'voting aera' of 40000, you would only need 1.5% to 2% of the population...

    Of course, this is all theory... such a system would never be accepted by americans: it would be perceived as archaic
