1) People whine that MS security is "teh suck" 2) People whine that users are too lazy/stupid to install the patches 3) People whine about automatic patch installation Well geez people, it looks like you're going to have to quit whining about at least one of these three things, because they aren't all compatible. If we admit that users are too ignorant/lazy/stupid to install patches, then we have no right to complain about MS wanting to automatically update things, because everyone is complaining that their security is terrible. It isn't fair to put people into an impossible situation like that, then blame them for it.
Well, for some of us that can't take chances on others quick fixes, we have to test patches in a test environment before we can even let the patch onto our production network. Geez.. You think its as simple as click, oh! patch installed, have a nice day... We have to test the patches for bugs before they can touch any of our mission critical machines... Now imagine the amount of patches Microsoft pumps out... You do the math on man hours involved.
When I try to visualize Mr. McBride in court, all I can think of is a male ballerina with a pink dress on, dancing in circles and humming, while big, bad, IBM is holdin a double barrel shotgun to his head.. Push the right button Mr. McBride, and we'll gladly put you out of your misery.. For good..
Interestingly, microwave ovens operate at 2.45 GHz (not listed on the spectrum allocation chart mentioned elsewhere). I wonder how effective the shielding of a typical microwave oven is.
That's it!! The moment my WiFi interrupts with my microwave, it's going out the window!!! How dare WiFi interrupt me cooking my Pizza Pockets!!
Linux can be used as a file server/firewall/application server/web server/email server/DNS server/database server/all of the above at once without costing you nearly as much as an X-Serve.
You can do all of that with an iMac, if you wish.
Care to give a url of a nice iMac web server to slashdot, and we'll see what OS is superior?:P
So what happens when the worm writers get a clue, and write subroutines to do lookups on hostnames, and attack based on the translated host-to-ip address? It's not too hard to resolve windowsupdate.microsoft.com to whatever the root dns has listed, or for that matter any domain. A big enough worm, even with load balancing on its target, will still cause havoc on every routing device from here to Timbuck Two. I for one, would hate to be paying the bandwidth bill on the intended target.
I'm going to want to take the disk out of their machine and use my machine to look at their data, but using their's doesn't exactly make it impossible, only inconvient. I guess if they destroyed their own board to hide evidence that would work. Another thing, your board frys. You loose all your data. I don't know how many times in my line of work I have had to replace a mother board and make sure the data from the old drive survived.
Please RTFA before you post, you're wasting bandwidth... It operates via USB key... So you replace the motherboard if it fries, stick your key in and voila, there's your fricken data..
You are enjoying the beautiful views from a mountain top at 3000m, enjoying the outdoors, hiking (one of my favorite activities), and being away from it all.
Yet you had to login to your server at home from your fucking cell phone?
Well, well... A little testy aren't we? Some of us have importance to our jobs.. i.e. I am the chief network admin at my workplace, and if I had to crawl out of the mountains to help one of my techs solve a problem that is mission critical at that moment, find an internet cafe that i can ssh or vpn or vnc into one of my servers.... Well, you see where I am going.
You completely underestimate the value of such devices. I get paid very well to maintain a huge network across North America, and to stay in touch if my help is needed when I'm not in the office. Having these tools at 3000m is an incredible advance in my field, and I can finally enjoy my Sunday afternoons at the park, or in the wilderness.

Not only that, have you seen one of those vehicles? And for that matter, any environmentally friendly vehicle? They all look like crap. I wouldn't buy one even if it fit my needs, because they seem to design the vehicles for blind people, or those who are visually challenged.
This just in... Illegal filetraders would like to wield the power to destroy Senator Hatch's PC if he makes one more incredibly retarded comment on copyright infringement, or DRM law. Only illegal filetraders would have the power to do so, as it would be illegal for a law abiding citizen to do so.
This retarded story and much more at 6.
