It's the law. If the people paid for it (ie. taxes), then the people have to have access to it. I used to work as a consultant to NOAA. Everything we produced which NOAA paid for is available for cost of duplication and materials (this is usually a lot of money for simple things because the cost involves the wages of a government employee burning a dozen CDRs and the wages of his/her CTO, etc, etc).

There are exceptions (like secret defense projects and stuff), but that's the exception. They can't simply say "we choose to keep this info out of the hands of the public", it requires working through a legal process to gain that kind of status.

I think it would be great if somebody made games aimed at children. Nintendo has a whopping 2, maybe 3. OK, a couple more if you count the Pokemon stuff...but we don't do Pokemon in our house because some things are too stinking annoying (ie. Barney, Power Rangers, etc).

I'll bet most people don't stop to give it a fart's second to wonder about Spielberg's true involvement. You said yourself "I doubt..." which implies a certain lack of hard fact. So, the name being attached might as well mean (in practical terms) that he wrote, directed, produced, and everything. I suppose, if he's happy collecting some name-usage royalties, or whatever. Fine, more power to him. But, without actually thinking about it, the assumption that comes most easily to mind is: "he's past his prime and producing nothing but good-looking garbage".

That's different than passing judgement. That's a quicky gut reaction- the stuff that people say at lunch and parties. The stuff that happens way more regularly than actual judgement and probably starts to affect bottom line earlier and with greater impact.

Suppose you want to open a bank account. You fill out a paper form providing your name and address. But, you forget to provide your City...perhaps accidentally. The manager for new accounts would likely notice this, and then ask you to provide the missing information necessary to open your account. So...what if one bank patented that? That's really the same thing here. There is nothing unique about asking someone to complete the information necessary to execute the service they've paid you to do.
