    Train locomotives can run on electrified lines, Boats and Planes cannot. Boats are great for cheap but they are not fast. Even a train averaging a mere 100 kilometers per hour can make the run in 4 days versus 2 weeks for a ship. Trains are safer than ships on the open ocean.

      Electricity for trains can come from any source including uranium based nuclear power plants (which china has) and coal power plants (which russia has). Trains are not dependent on oil.

    Our technology is too primitive, our cultures are backward. Our population is xenophobic and militaristic in varying degrees. One would have to be insane
    to give cultures like that faster than light travel or even travel at near light speed. On its face it would seem we have nothing to offer these aliens, youd be wrong.

    At first the idea of slaves but robots can do the job cheaper and faster.

    Then the idea hit me...soldiers. If youre a wealthy interstellar civilization with enemies or just really bad pest problems...why not use humans,
    they breed themselves, cheap to feed and lets humans see the galaxy. The aliens would not have to enslave humans, theyd just offer ultra
    tech toys and cool ray guns and youd have plenty of volunteers.

    Microsoft doesnt have to sue linux companies, they just reach settlements with companies that use linux, the either

    a) Encourage companies to use microsoft products through FUD
    or
    b) Get IP revenue from settlements.

    If they tried to directly take on linux companies other than SUSE then they would have to disclose the patents.
    Im sure if Microsoft tried to take on Red Hat then they would probably wind up clashing with IBM.

    480p component inputs on tvs will work fine its just 480p outputs on dvd/blue-ray disc players wont. Wii doesnt play DVD's
    so it wont be affected by the AACS action.

    In any event most wii players dont care about the difference between 480p and 480i

    An overpriced underperforming platform get bypassed in favor of digital media players with increasing sizes of flash storage or hd storage.

    Its a story of a clever technology undermined by its own advocates. Why buy a blu-ray player that may not play new favorites 3 months
    from now when you can get a digital download. The old tech people may stick with DVD while the new tech people may switch
    over to direct digital download. If Im gonna hook my player up to a network to get firmware updates, I might as well just get a network
    media player.

    If the schools email system failed to properly send your class assignments and you didnt receive emails properly,
    you should have contacted the university and appealed your grade. At the very least the university would have
    allowed you to retake the class without cost or GPA penalty. You couldnt have been the only person in school this happened to.

    You may still be able to appeal if nothing else to just get the F removed from your transcript(I assume to retook the course).
    If you kept your emails since then you can print out your email directory where the old emails are missing.

    The reason why todays 12 year olds dont like episode IV as much as the new ones is the original trilogy for the most part wasnt made for 12 year olds.

    It wasnt originally marketed to 12 years olds, they didnt even have the action figures ready for the first film. It showed the grandpa figure getting killed in front of the
    audience.

    It had good actors (Alec Guinness and Christopher Lee) and tight well written script.

    We didnt like it because it was a kiddy film we liked it because it was a good film.

    Ive used Nvidia cards with my desktops and laptops with ubuntu(and Linux Mint which is based on ubuntu) couple years now.
    I had one problem in 2 years and all that I had to do was rollback to the previous nvidia driver in the package manager.

    What you have is not a linux problem its a Fedora and ATI problem. The Fedora logo should be a Fedora hat on guinea pig :-/

    A physical bully is a criminal, there is no social ineptness that justifies being physically battered.

    The article deals how to help people deal with social bullying. Socially bullying is not a crime even though it could
    be considered a form of harassment similar to sexual harassment in which case schools could be found civily liable
    if they do not intervene actively to prevent it.

    No the schools have never really taken on socially popular bullies. Schools only now are reacting because they are getting sued.

    People who beat up other people GO TO JAIL. They do not get peer mediation, they dont get 3 day suspensions.
    Police do not tell victims "Suck it up, be a man, stop living in a fantasy world", they arrest the thug and put him in jail
    for an extended period of time. They do not force victims to stay in proximity with their perpetrators.

    We do not tolerate it when husbands batter wives and when parents batter children, we dont allow thugs to extort money from people
    on city streets or to beat up people as a means of social dominance. Why do we tolerate physical violence by peers?

    If sony or nintendo wanted to become like everyones best friend they could create a psp with basic cell phone capabilities a
    an open sim card slot and no pre-assigned carrier. That way teenagers and others could go to 7-11 buy a prepaid
    sim card and stick it in.

    The truly huge untapped market is not for the cell phone users who like to game, its for people who own a
    psp or ds and dont want to have to carry around a separate cell phone or have a stupid contract they cant afford.

    If necessity is the mother of invention, its time we get to inventing. Nasa has subsidized extremely expensive shuttle launches that cost us $500 million a pop. Ares I wont put a man into space until 2017 at the EARLIEST if at all. Ares V is a bad joke thats already on the verge of being scrapped. The current plan would not get men back to the moon before 2028 at the earliest, project constellation was an epic fail. Lets give private companies like spacex (which will test launch a man ready falcon 9 THIS YEAR) a chance

    Just because you have a computer science degree doesnt mean you know how to fix a computer. Memorization is not glamorous but a technician who knows his s--t by heart
    is a better tech than someone who is winging it. When I went to get my current job, yes having an a+ certification distinguished me from the warm bodies
    that were applying for the job. An a+ cert is the difference between $7.50 an hour working as a stock boy vs $12-15 an hour + benefits working as a full time tech.

    No the a+ is not for 100k job and its not a substitute for a college degree, but combined with experience it does have its worth and its place.
