The Amiga version was the best version of Simearth ever made. The pc version looked like crap by comparison. Also the original Simcity was best on the Amiga.
If commodore had stayed in business Id probably still have an Amiga.
"...This time around, a split-the-baby compromise is virtually impossible, both sides acknowledge. That's because the core difference lies with a single aspect of the disc -- a thin layer of plastic that sits just above the metal surface on which data is written. An HD DVD disc calls for a 0.6 millimeter coating, while a Blu-ray disc requires 0.1 millimeters.
While that doesn't seem like much, the half-millimeter gap amounts to a technological chasm. HD DVD's thicker coating is the same as current DVDs, which allows manufacturers to use existing disc stamping equipment to make the new discs. That gives HD DVD a significant cost advantage and more predictability about what those costs will be, backers say. HD DVD players can also rely on some of the same technology as conventional DVDs, making it easier to build players that can
handle both generations of disc.
That's an important feature, given how many conventional DVDs movie buffs already own, backers say.
Blu-ray's thinner coating requires all new manufacturing equipment, but it's the secret behind the disc's higher capacity. Because the laser travels through a thinner layer of resin, it's able to focus more sharply and write 67 percent more data onto the disc itself. "
Before you call her a kissass realize she actually asked intelligent questions such as why there werent more women at microsoft(before the snarky comments remember she is a 9 year old girl speaking up for equality in a nation like Pakistan) and told a Microsoft VP her vision for self-navigating car.
You have to realize for a little geek girl in a country like Pakistan going to Microsoft is like going to a paradise where everything works and people are smart just like her.
If you check out her photo, in another 10-15 years she is going to be a major geek hottie... so be nice and not be pricks!
This is just a reminder to all us geeks who love to bash people from that part of the world...
Pakistan and india are the only two countries that I know of where many of the geeks are women who are good looking and its considered a good thing to be living with your parents as an adult until you are married...think about it!
Cant people shut off their s--t and stop talking during movies? These backlit screens nearly blinded me. They think "my little screen" wont disturb anybody....WELL IT DOES. Its like seeing a little flashlight, its okay for a few seconds then it becomes a serious distraction.
I cant believe this guy got modded down. Just because his facts were incovenient. If people want to get Linux used in education they need to work with education software makers (like Accelerated Reader, and Scholastic) to produce Linux versions of those software products. Even Openoffice in some parts(Presentations and the database) doesnt work as well as Microsoft Office. IBM are you listening? Wine is not acceptable alternative, you must have native linux versions of these products.
All of his statements are dead right on. As someone who also works in a school Ill verify what he says. Except teachers dont hate to be taught...they dont have time to be taught.
How many kids have an infrared scope at home? I bet not many. Now how many kids have visible light telescopes at home? Maybe they dont get as good an image as the hubble, but people can relate to the hubble telescope in a way they cant relate to infrared telescopes.
While Infrared light may generate alternate avenues of science, humans dont see in infrared. Hubble produces space results that Joe Sixpack can actually see or have his kids download for their school projects. Thats how NASA can get funding, produce results people can see and can benefit from.
The hubble telescope fires the imagination and inspires future generations of scientists. Hubble cost $2 billion to put up and only cost $500 million to service. Why not make the most of your investment.
Someone has sold us a myth that average people dont care about space exploration. This is bullcrap. They care when they feel like they are a part of it. When they feel like NASA is just another government agency squandering money on stuff they dont understand, thats when NASA gets hacked.
If we can prove a pattern of bribery to police(the payoffs in more than one city or more than one instance).
We can ask a federal prosecutor to charge the MPAA under the RICO act and seize THEIR assets. If you can get a conviction under the RICO act you can seize the assets of their members.
They are often hired to train armies in africa and latin america. The mercenaries are hired to do a job, if they can get paid doing military training that doesnt put their neck on the line they will do that happily. There is plenty of highly paid security work without war.
Politicians(on the winning side) are the ones who benefit from war.
1) Such a license term would be thrown out in court for multiple reasons...including unconcionability
2) Anyone who tried to enforce such an interpretation would be countersued for a bazillion dollars for extortion. It would make the GPL people look 1000 times worse than SCO.
3) You cant claim ownership of a document simply by virtue owning the rights to make the equipment it was created with. The copyright on authored text documents(books, etc) is separate from copyright of computer source code of GPL product.
Pop ups interfere with web browser operation. A banner ad is part of the webpage itself. The "adblock" thing blocks BOTH.
The popup flamers dont address the legitimate point that web page owners such as Slashdot.org have the right to pay for their web pages with passive advertising such as banner adds and logos on the page. I find "legitimate features" such as music and sound effects on a page far more annoying than static banner ads.
If I run a webpage that depends on honest ads (not sleazy things like popups and popunders, etc, etc) and you have this feature turned on , I should have
the right to block you from viewing my webpage or make you pay for the ad-free page.
Networks should allow internet rebroadcast...as long as
1) The program is provided in original format WITH Commercials and credits as originally broadcast. If someone paid money to make something you either pay for it or respect the way they earn their money(ie commercials). You can always fast forward.
2) No wildfeeds...no broadcasting programs here before they are broadcast by the original distributor unless the original distributor is defunct or does not intend to air the program in that area.
The right of first broadcast ought to mean something. The people who made the program ought to have the right to broadcast it first.
The problem is the pinball machine makers are targeting the wrong market. They need to make smaller more compact ones for the home nostalgists instead of huge honkin ones for the video arcades.
As a matter of fact I did play Pinball, it is sad to see them go. However I can say the same thing about the Atari 2600. The newer controllers are way too complicated there is something elegantly simple about a joystick with only one button.

The point is Pinball machines are the horse and buggy of the gaming era.

Quality sci-fi does quite well on Friday nights thank you very much.
So what...
VHS didnt win because it had a better picture, VHS won because it was less costly.
HD-DVD has better backwards compatibility(hd-DVD players play older DVDs more easily)
Get your mind out of the gutter.
:P
In 10 or 15 years she'll be a beautiful twentysomething woman who will probably
be a programmer or YOUR project manager.

www.getfirefox.com :)
That could hold 280,000 MP3s or
;-)
150 full length movies at 480 progressive.
I could store my entire media collection on
one disc and still not be able to find anything
Thats pretty cool.
There was no Rogueish good guy like Han Solo.
What leaves me hitting my head against the wall...
Why didnt they make Bail Organa more like Han Solo or at least use him more in the second and third prequel? Jimmy Smits is a GOOD actor.
They should have let us see more of Alderann and understand just how tragic its destruction was.

We can ask a federal prosecutor to charge the MPAA
under the RICO act and seize THEIR assets. If you can get a conviction under the RICO act you can seize the assets of their members.
The self-avowed members of the MPAA include
Disney
Sony
Paramount
Fox
Universal
We can apply forfeiture laws to their membership.
