I saw some mention of Knoppix running off of a udf file system using a CD-RW drive. I seems it would easy enough to slip in a small read/write home directory. You could save your configuration and still not have to touch the hard drive.

If you don't need a massive airflow try a 24 volt fan. They still provide air circulation and are very quiet running on 12 volts.

IMO If Microsoft really wanted to be Linux Friendly
they would port Visual Basic to Linux (not that I am a Visual Basic fan).
