I wonder when nations will begin requiring national registration for spacecraft (ie - HMS Bounty)... I know the shuttles are "Registered" as US planes, but VSS implies that Virgin is vying for "autonomy" as a space venture. So is "The Corporation" (ala Aliens Trilogy) Virgin,Inc.?
Traveller by GDW had all sorts of formulas.. you go half way balls out, turn the ship around half way and throttle back up again... you get a nice quick trip, and arrive at orbital speed.
The problem is that you just have to put the "pro-sco" meme out there, and it will lodge in some PHB brain, and force the underlings to repeat it in meetings.. and so the meme grows. Its sort of like the "any press is good press" idea. With the Microsoftie meme closely allied against the Open-Source meme, many offices will follow the sco thought... a shame, but true.
My buggywhip manufacturing plant uses good old fashioned chained flat files. No one in their right mind would EVER use some *toy* database structure, especially that whole relational database poppycock. balderdash!
What they didn't know, was that (like all good sci-fi comics prior to the graphic novels of the late 80's) there was only one way to unlock the door of the secret super evil overlords of darkness... and that was a 6 qubit register!
How I miss my Subaru Justy, not quite as efficient as this, but a great little car. I would get 50mpg+ if I drove on the interstate and occassionally got behind a semi.
and hiding will become an artform.. because no one will believe that something could actually *hide* from the sensor web... So hidden things will be very well hidden indeed once you assume that they cannot exist.
A baby should be loved and cuddled, held, and all that. Don't think its just a server that needs to be "monitored". How about *BEING* with your child. I imagine you also want one of those car seats that is a stroller, feeding chair, etc so you won't need to actually HOLD your child. Want a good bond with your kid that will last thru all the stupid teenage hijinks? Hold them as an infact, talk to them, tell them stories.. you need LOW tech, not high tech.
And in the name of the children, your car will report you and automagically deduct the fines from your bank account.. or report if you have doubled the speedlimit and need "assistance" from local law enforcement... ahh the brave new world

Modifications in design invalidate the hardware test, and put it up there in the "risky" category again... esp. with the modification being an increase in the amount of fuel hangin' around. I hope they had this intent in the first phase (we start with this size tank, and move up to this one later)...
You almost need a cluster/failover server that has "dumb" terminals that plug in, and possibly share resources with the cluster.... sort of a mix of the two.
And the dreaded Tse-tse flies! I loved Indiana Jones... That and Empire strikes back with the AT-ATs. I wonder if "E.T." will be released;) - bugs and all!
that its not that big brother is recording our emails - they realize they can't.. so they make it law that we have to spy on ourselves by saving emails. So, If I delete my own emails - can I plead the 5th amendment? But, forcing my employer to spy on me, now that is an interesting work-around to the 5th. Not one I like, just interesting.
Beowulf clusters of chips just sitting in a great big heap!... So in the year 3200 we'll have Self-aware garbage dumps. Another interesting point would be eaves-dropping on processors ala Tempest radiation, but now the processor will be doing the transmission.

I feel for you. I've done a few of those "hey we need a front end!" things myself... let me know if you need any help.

Isn't it slightly obvious when people who play the game refer to it as some sort of incredibly addictive drug (evercrack for example)

Do you find that cats seem magnetically attracted to open computer cases? Its only a hypothesis of mine.
Ahh.. so "How many cats crazy are you?" We are only one cat crazy. Most programmers I know are at least 2-3 cats crazy. How many cats crazy are you?

Doesn't 3m or IBM have the patent to "geostamping"... I wonder if the idea will take off enough to warrent a "geostamp" data type in sql?
ahh, to own a superfast "rat-thing" (not to spoil the plot)

tiny strips of wire/foil at various lengths glued to the back of the wallpaper at various angles would have a similar effect to chaff.
Why you would bother with an IPO if you're making $100 million dollars?

so, you just write your own packet VOIP and throw in some industrial grade encryption...
