It may be clear to US, but the problem is people like this get the air time, and it does cause confusion and scares good people away. You never hear about the 1000's of people every day that DON'T have license issues, and rarely the outcome of things like this when the idiot at the helm loses the battle. It looks bad and leaves bad tastes in peoples mouths. Remember too, even if you are in the right, if you get sued it costs you $ and could bankrupt smaller companies so being right doesn't always mean diddly.
This is also a good way to kill off a project, who wants to be working with a madman?
I can say that if they were to implement that patent in this fashion they can kiss me good bye for good. But, like others here, i think that the poster is misinterpreting where this is headed.
Only time will tell of course.
As a side note i detect some hypocrisy here as i remember when the rumor was that Linux laptops/desktops would be coming out that would be subsidized with ads everyone applauded. ( well not everyone.. i for one didn't )
Sounds sort of like community or municipal efforts to me. The 'pirate' label really should be dropped to help with marketing. Sure, its cute, but wont help.
Um, the contract that you agreed to that allows access to the carriers private data/voice network. Laid down by the same carrier that you are contracted with.
These are not standalone devices, and have different risks to whom you have a contract with, thus different rules. Pretty simple concept if you get past the 'me me me' angle.
How can they do this to us. its just as bad as Apple!!
And for those slow among us, that was sarcasm. Remember Its a phone, they aren't supposed to be user modifiable devices so why are we surprised when they are restricted?
You try calling 911 when you are 12 years old, just been attacked, are scared, in shock and the guy that just hurt you said he will kill you if you try to call for help.
How do you even know there was a phone she could safely get to? Were you there?
Looks like they shut down a host, which just happens to have a lot of sites.. Tons of collateral damage but i don't think the goal was to shut down 73k sites.
One should be able to protect yourself if you create something new. True, the entire patent sturcture has been abused, but there needs to be something. ( and i don't think copyright is it either )
I agree about 'losing' the markup, but i personally think the customer satisfaction and good press would be worth it. I might be wrong with the big picture, but just my personal feeling.
And they could always give away a cheaper one and fake some sort of discount on the higher end case.
Apple really dropped the ball this time. All they had to do was say 'oops, our bad, we messed up but here is a free case' and the problem would have been effectively solved, and they would have saved face.
Such a cheap solution to a potential marketing disaster.. I just don't understand it. ( and ill be keeping my 3Gs and not upgrading, but that is beacuse i don't like cases... Perhaps the model 4Gs.. )
Every day it looks like Microsoft just doesn't get it and has no direction any longer. They are floundering around, playing catchup and not doing a very good job at it.
If they don't get a clue soon, they will be marginalized into a shell of what they were in the 80's and 90's. ( not that ill miss them a bit )
No, i will not RTFA. The story summary should be accurate/informative enough to allow one to base an opinion off of. If its inaccurate or lacking facts, too damned bad.
Not only that access is restricted, but if you get caught running something like freenet, or having unauthorized encrypted transmissions, it wont matter what the content is, you can still be charged/jailed/executed just for the act of trying.
1 - If they accept stolen information anything they do with it will be tossed out of court and taint any pending or future litigation. 2 - Having an account isn't grounds for anything.. I doubt even logs of what you searched for would be.

They padded the numbers by making all searches on their pages as a 'bing search' so as to pad the acceptance numbers.

Of course it can be degraded depending on its environment.
What is next, the 'discovery' that batteries run down differently depending on the temperature?

Images and videos that can haunt are not just porn. Porn would be the least harmful i would imagine.
Our rights in any form now goes to the highest bidder.
Except the don't explain the charges well enough, and not all are optional anyway.
According to what rule? And who laid that down?

Don't like it, buy a real computer.

On second thought, you are an idiot.

Um, no you don't. It could be the next guy who bought the laptop from the thief.
Well, that blows that. Too bad about the topless girls.

Ill go one step further and predict if they stick with this path, it will be their eventual undoing.

That is the whole point of a summary.

Stanza on my iphone does this now, and i am sure the weren't the first.
Nothing at all.

Hey, it worked on farscape..
Its called marketing.
