I hit post too fast, i also wanted to include the RIAA ( and to a lesser extent, the BSA and its friends ) marketing has also scared common people away from truly free stuff. be it music or software.

"if its free, its gotta be stealng" " if its free software, its no good and full of viruses" " how do they get paid, it must not be legal" etc.. Its really hard to explain to people at times who are programmed by the spin. The TV is a powerful device to sway the public.

I wouldnt say NO ONE .. but i do agree the % is skewed towards the techies.

I know several non techies that are terrified to download something ( if they even knew how they wouldnt ), completely due to RIAA marketing. Which will get one hell of a boost from this judgement.

Evolution will drop useless parts as well, just not as quickly since it doesnt effect survival at the time. ( where it may have at some point in the past ). Remember too, mating rituals are part of survival. Often in the animal kindgom if you arent as pretty as the competition you cease to contribute to the gene pool. Lobes and other apparent useless-but-neutral features may have been a 'pretty' factor 10 thousand years ago for us.

And since evolution never stops, you cant really predict when something like earlobs will disappear. It just hasn't happened YET.

When the visibility is this high, and the corporation has bribed, eerrr lobbied, this hard its not surprising to see the government ( i wont say 'bush', this sort of nonsence is a government issue in general, not an administration issue ) comment on it.

Sort of like the 'war on drugs', or 'war on big tobacco', ( and soon, 'big snack food' ) you can expect public comments.

I say its time for us citizens to have a 'war on RIAA', and take no prisoners. Start with voting out anyone that in the least supports this. Show them we are displeased with their being purchased and no longer looking out for their constituents.

I dont see how Apple can lose this. When you bought the stupid phone, and got your service, you agreed to the limitations set forth by Apple. If you didnt like the license, you shouldnt have agreed to it.

Now, if they were to change the license along the way you can at least have a reason to complain, but come on, you idiots agreed to this upfront.

1 - what hardware does it run on, generic PC's? Generic Macs? If its still on custom hardware, its DOA at this stage of the game.
2 - software: is it all custom, or can i run Word, Acrobat, etc? If it cant run commodity software its also DOA as far as the big picture is concerned. ( X11 will help.. )

While it may be great technology, there are 100s of 'good' OS's out there that are niche markets. That doesnt make them 'better'. Even when they had a chance like Be. You just hve to have a level of compatiblity of both hardware AND software of the 2 big players to really make it and be 'better'.

Back OT: Off-site storage of data is practical for EVERYONE. You can get this new fangled thing called a 'safety deposit box' for a few bucks a year at your local bank. Cant afford the few bucks for the deposit box? take it to a friends, or the offfice. Chances of both places buring down at the same exact moment is pretty remote. We are only talking a single external HD here, so its not going to require an entire climate controlled warehouse or something.

There is really no excuse for having off-site data storage.
