I said we are HEADING IN THAT DIRECTION, not that we are there yet. I agree we arent like a 3rd world nation, today, but momentum is pulling us in that direction, and in 2 or 3 generations i think it will be hard to tell the difference.
Even non-net games should be banned. They are a total waste of time and resources, and only serve to rot the brains of 'players' who are being manipluated by the media giants to purchase products.
Nothing good comes out of these 'electronic video games'.
Ya, that works great since we havent invented battery powered reciprocating saws yet. Makes mincemeat of cables and wall studs in seconds.
Offsite storage is the only way to go. As you point out, even a simple fire would have wiped him out. With all the talk of 'movie vaults' in his industry you would think that off site storage would have at least crossed his mind once.
And i dont think they are trampling *rights*, since i agree we are talking 'free' stuff here, but i do think its counter productive to be a pain in the butt about something like this. Gives people a bad taste, which is not going to help adoption any.
But dont most major manufacturers ( like dell, levono, HP ) have to apply the 'tax' even if you dont include windows? I thought that was part of their contract to get the 'special deal'
While not exactally the same, it is the same group..
I remember back in early school years using a slide rule like device for finding guitar chords. I think it was from yamaha. Damned if i lost it over the years, never dreamed it would be come 'antique' in my life time and something to save.
Now we have pocket chord finders and digital tuners.
I also agree, the size of the newton was perfect for usability. Modern day handhelds are just too small to be general purpose. However, if you get much bigger then the original ( a paper back pocket book ) then its too big, and might as well get a tablet.
It was held back due to obscene pricing, then killed off by Jobs in revenge when he returned.
And ya, i did buy one, and ya it hurt the pocket book. Still have it, and it still works.
While i dont believe it will ever return, it would be a 'really great thing', as long as it was created in the same light as the orginainal. A true PDA from the start, not some sort of desktop OS shoehorned into a too small handheld device.
Your software isn't considered legit by Microsoft ( and will stop working after a while even ). Don't like those rules? Choose a software vendor that doesn't have those restrictions.

Again, i didn't say TODAY...
That is just a difference in lighting.

Actually, i have. And that is the direction we are headed. Scary, isnt it?

Just to clarify, some do get paid.
And i dont think they are trampling *rights*, since i agree we are talking 'free' stuff here, but i do think its counter productive to be a pain in the butt about something like this. Gives people a bad taste, which is not going to help adoption any.
Now, try telling some truth.
Well, since there are no end users that use Debian, i guess their entire userbase are more then capable to just do the patch themselves, right?
..
No elitism here
( Yes this is sarcasm. Rather short sighted of the Debian crew )
Even if you like it, its still a "tax" when its forced upon you.

Depends on if they work here or not on income tax. However, they do pay sales taxes like the rest of us.
Then they take their new found knoledge back home, with no export tax involved, so they can siphon off more jobs.
We are slowly slipping into 3rd world status due to shortsightedness and greed.
It was easier to keep track of what was what back before they dropped the pure numbering scheme.
I bet its already being sold.
I wasnt there, you were. How am i to know it was sarcasm?
It doesnt bother me anymore, but it used to greatly.
Now, i just demand to talk to an American supervisor right off the bat.. If they refuse, i take my business elsewhere and be sure corporate knows why.
This is a joke, right?
Disconnecting your internet service isn't the same as cutting your 911 land line.

That a economics instructor didn't know what a slide rule was is more scary to me than people not remembering how to use one.

:)
So ya, in a way size does matter

No, they didn't make it so appealing users want to keep old. They made the upgrade so appalling that users don't want to buy new.

That is their problem for working for the enemy, not mine.
