    Once DRM becomes mandated on all PC hardware, who in the OSS community will be able to afford to be 'certified'. Not many..

    At that point only the 'big boys' will be able to play..

    Microsoft has a *lot* of money in the bank, and can afford to be very patient on regaining their domination..

    You cant practically run a 'normal' site anonymously anyway:

    - You register and get a Domain name..

    - You use your ISP's service..

    - "free hosting", still can track your IP..

    Guess its time for them to start using FreeNet. This is exactally the type of reason it was created.

    If they mandate that at all the ISPs, then they are effectively cut off.

    Its pretty simple. Its illegal to create ( and distribute ) code that can be used to break DRM. However, its not illegal to build a crowbar.

    Is this morally right? No, of course not. But its how the laws that the media bought are written.

    Sometimes its easier to comply then go to jail or be sued into oblivion. You may be against it morally, but you still have a family to feed and have to cave in to 'the man'.

    I tend to agree totally, as I sit here with an 8031 SBC I built 15 years go sitting on my desk.. It don't do anything, other then serve as a reminder of the past..

    However, I think its safe to say that in the future there will still be other FPGA companies out there, so as long as you don't try to hoard chips you will be ok.

    Also, don't forget the amazing things you can do with a simple PROM chip.. Any discreet logic can be emulated ( at decent speeds ) with a large enough PROM. The 'poormans' FPGA. Its how we did it in the 'old days'.

    Though I don't think ill care much about it all if we get hit with a nuclear war, as finding food and water will be more important then balancing my checkbook..
