    The problem is if you give it to students, you are teaching them something that ( currently ) they have almost zero chance of seeing when they have to get a job..

    "Can you use Microsoft Office" will be the question, and if they say ' nope, never seen it' , then you can bet they wont be hired.

    Now, teaching both.. THAT'S a good idea..

    While anything is possible, i dont think you realize the costs/time involved. And if you have to ask here, i guarantee you dont have the funds or the expirence.

    Problem is, people can plan ahead and manipulate markets for when they are back out of office year later.

    Its hard to see those coming and prevent it.

    Its always worked fine for me. If you leave your node on a few days you will find that things improve *greatly*.

    Don't expect blazing speed, due to the tradeoffs in the name of security/anonymity, but it will be more then useable.

    Load issues: Some releases are better than others I agree.

    No dependency problem, no wondering if package X works with linux distro Y.

    It just works..

    FreeNet works for what it was intended for. Anonymous dissemination of 'restricted' information and knowledge in repressive areas.

    It was not intended for P2P file sharing.. So you cant judge its success of failure on being unable to download the latest movie ..

    It does suffer from the fact its not *needed* yet today in the civilized world, so there are not enough members to make it work really well.

    However, that is about to change I think...

    Now they can just use our tax dollars to attack people that aren't really doing anything wrong anyway.

    Put more people in jail too.. Raise taxes to support that too..

    Its long since time for the next revolution. The grand experiment has failed, it no longer supports or represents the PEOPLE. It now only supports 'big business'.

    Seriously tho, this is a BAD idea, using beta products in production that have features that are subject to change..

    Nothing worse then having a control that you are using be dropped in the next release...

    If i wasnt root, i wouldnt have hurt a thing.. Instead, as being root i just killed my entire machine due to hitting enter by accident..

    There are of course MANY other examples of why root is bad, but this is an easy example.. And with how easy it is to typo...

    Charge *outragous* fees for bandwidth useage..

    Make it cost more for the average joe to download a song then to go buy it at the store... ( or movie, program, etc )

    Then that will effectivly stop it.. ( well, not completely, but for all practical purposes its over )

    Until then, its all just a speed bump...

    Some other commercial distros are pretty well thought out as well.

    Example: Xandros3.

    ( oh, and they offer a community edition you can actually download and install, not some 'ftp only' garbage )

    Mepis is also pretty far up there for 'well planned out'.

    Both debian based, which is a plus for the future.

    You just proved my point that BSD is more free.

    I dont about your statement about the original intent when the BSD license was created. Unless you were there, and want to contradict its framers then you are wrong. They knew what they were doing, and the intent was pretty clear. It still is.

    In general, my statements are all about relative amounts of freedom that are at issue with these licenses. In a relative sense, i am correct.

    You may choose to hide your head in the sand even when presented with a prime example as the story topic but that doesnt make the reality of the GPL being *less free* and *viral at its core* go away.

    Even the idiot who created the GPL *intended* it to be viral.. look at his reasonings for how its written.. It MEANT it to be viral so that everything 'must be free' and remove rights from the users of the code.. He didnt want one to have the rights to choose, as is with other licenses.

    Geesh .. are all of you this dense not to see it? Im not saying you cant choose under which license you want to be *controlled* by, only that you see it for what it is.

    Oh, i agree its not just an OSS problem and effects any software ( or hardware ) that you buy.

    Im just restating the push of the Ad campaign and the angle they are using.

    Even if Microsoft did promise to come to you rescue and pay your legal bills, it still doesnt help you when you cant use said software any longer and business suffers..
