Regardless of the fact that 'shared source' is not 'open source' ( actually its worse, as it could potentially create 'tainted programmers' and ruin their careers, and any open project they touch ) i dont see Microsoft letting anyone take a peek at one of their few GOOD products..
Too much risk for them. Just imagine the next 'slammer worm'...
Same sort of story there.. You get less time if you actually commit a crime and steal a cd then if you commit a copyright violation and copy the same thing.
If you qualify that as 'less restrictive', I'm sure many will agree.
Unfortunately, even here our freedom of speech is no longer honored as it was intended by our founding fathers. "for our protection" ( or just for lawsuits to generate cash for the attorneys )
Sure we are better of then most ( all? ) but we aren't perfect at this point.
Even if you do come up with a good solution for when they turn the flag on, its only going to work until either your machine dies, or when you have to be able to conform with the drm/flag just to see your content at all.

If that is the part you dont understand, then you are a moron.
Expand your mind, stop playing video games and read some history.

Its all about who has more money..
Personally id be worried if the big gorilla didn't like me. It might decide to sit on me..
Unless I was wanting to be bought out...
I thought that the ablity for *nix users to use binary drivers for Win32 was working now..
If that was expanded and made more seamless, that would solve the 'driver problem'.
Perhaps not the best solution, but it would at least work.
Im a mac fan too, but if the device isnt blessed by Apple, it may not work well, or at all.
If it is blessed, then it works like magic..
Will still continue to work.
They cant expect large corporations to have to fight with changing all their machines just because their code got leaked.
It will piss enough people off that something will be done.
The first time a US senator has to call and beg for another keycode and be denied.. This nonsence will end the next day.
I understand they want to curb piracy, but you dont do it by upseting your customer base. That only INCREASES the problem.
The difference ( to me at least ) would be that the military information release would onjly be delayed, not censored after the release.
Sure, this is a gray area, but after the war is over, all data should be released to the public.
Why on earth would those exist?
For stunts like this perhaps? Free advertising...
The porn should not be censored. However the act of creating it should be ( and is ).
In your narrow example, if you stop the actual crime, there would be nothing to censor.
I stand with the statement, no information should ever be censored. Ever.
If you qualify that as 'less restrictive', I'm sure many will agree.

It may not be *THE* path, but it is *A* path..
Its also in vogue these days..
Knowledge should never ever be censored.
Never.
Bending over for absurd rules only perpetuates them, and the tyrants that make them..
ACK!
If they wernt making money they wouldnt be doing it ...
They just log everything you do, and hire staff to go thru it all.
Then of course charge back the costs to their customers as it wont be cheap. "cost of doing business".
And if you hit encrypted pages, they will just report that as suspicious behavior to the government.
The older ( perhaps current ones too ) used to lock up with a 'service' error after a certian number of prints was reached.
It could be cleared if you knew the codes, but thae were not given out to mere 'consumers'.
Its still a scam, but its not new.
I used the word *NORMAL* I did not say all.
Umm the cart IS the print head you are talking normal inkjet printers/plotters.. so that isnt a valid argument.

Sure they exist, i got one the other day for nothing.
The guy down the hall bought one and left it on his desk unattended. "free ipod".
Which is legal, no matter what you losers around here think.
I suppose that is true if you dont mind losing rights to your code..
As a *user* you win since they are forced to give it to you for free.
As a *devloper* you lose, as you are forced to give your work away..
Thanks for proving my point of why the GPL is so bad and everything free should be under the BSD license instead..
Of course i expect to be moderated way down, again...
