Virgin is a classic case of "brand stretching", and in the UK they run an incredibly unreliable passenger railway service. Presumably people using the Virgin music service can expect their downloads to be 2 hours late, to break down regularly and to disrupt the entire internet when in progress.
The Nokia 6820 has only been out for six months. I've seen the 6820 and although the keyboard is clever, the screen is terrible. Check out the Siemens SK65 though - it's a much smarter, more business-orientated phone with a better screen and proper Blackberry support.
This is not a "well written" article at all - it completely confuses network based worms like Blaster and Nachi and email viruses like MyDoom. They are not the same thing at all. A virus like MyDoom doesn't need to find a Windows security vulnerability because it targets the user rather than the computer. What's the author suggesting? Write a virus to give the users a clue?
This is how we got hit my MyDoom - a ZIP file turns up with a message to entice the users to open it - this is just social engineering - and they do, to find a plausible looking exectuable file inside named WHOEVER@WHATEVER.COM). The security hole follows next - the user either runs the file, or they don't. Some of our users did. Some were suspicious enough so that they didn't click it. If someone can write a security patch so that the users will know that a.COM file is an executable rather than an email address then I'll gladly give them up to be infected.
Got it, but in the meantime I switched to Mozilla Firefox and I honestly don't see any reason to go back to IE apart from a handful of aggressively IE-only sites.
To quote Nelson Muntz.. Ha-HA! Poor saps like me who always wince under the smugness of Mac users when our networks are wiped off the face of the earth by some script kiddie every month at least get a little light relief.
Seriously though, even relatively small user populations are vulnerable to trojans and worms. The Witty Worm (see this analysis) indicates that non-Windows users are just as vulnerable a target - Witty infected almost 100% of the vulnerable worldwide population of 12,000 or so machines in about an hour. In other words, Mac (and Linux) users need to take the same precautions as those of us who are saddled with bloody Windows do.
Errr you mean just like the Motorola E680? A great looking handset with a nice large screen, multimedia support, a reasonable camera and good applications support that happens to run some embedded Linux version or other. Oh yeah, it makes phone calls too.
I think the point with a device like the E680 is not that it runs Linux, but that it's a highly specced and powerful device that will appeal to those who want a decent hybrid PDA/phone.
Also, bear in mind that using Linux means that Motorola don't have to licence anything from Symbian or Micrsoft.
Why.. thank you:)
I did check my speling quite carfully to.

Rumors about an N-Gage 2 have been doing the rounds for a while. This isn't the N-Gage 2 - it's a stripped down version of the original with a couple of enhancements, and I guess this is actually a good thing.
But.. they've taken out MP3 support, the radio and still haven't added a digital camera. The display is a little small by current standards too.
My guess is that the "N-Gage 2" will be announced in a few months time with another model name (what the heck does QD stand for anyway) and will have more features, and maybe a better screen.
Doing it this way means that they should still be able to shift the original N-Gages still in the supply chain, then they can announce the "N-Gage 2" later.
There's a useful independent writeup of the N-Gage 2 here.
What's frightening is that there are *so* many remote code execution vulnerabilities in this one. At least they're all rolled up into one patch. But this gives so many potential backdoors for a Blaster style worm.
100K dead lines in the central business district is a wipeout, plus most data systems have been wiped out and the mobile telephone system is struggling with all the extra load.
We've got patchy and intermittant ISDN connectivity to our Manchester office, but we're not expecting anything close to even a normal backup service for days. We've shunted work out to other regional offices to cover.
OK, it's bad, but worse things have happened. Remember when the IRA blew Manchester city centre up? No lives have been lost and everything will be back to normal soon. ish.
Psion don't build much these days, but their flagship device, the Netbook Pro actually runs Windows CE.NET and is probably one of the most interesting CE devices about.
Back in the 90s, Psion pulled out of mainstream PDAs because they said they "only" had 14% share. These days, that's 14% share of a damned big market including Smartphones. IMHO Psion have not got the balls to be in business because they keep pulling out of every field they're any good at. Luckily for them, the Teklogix business is a bit of a cash cow but it's hardly mainstream stuff.
Here's a very recent thread at Abestweb where Richter tries to con some affiliates into signing up to his program. It all starts to unravel when they begin to pick him apart. Look out for the Ukranian connection.
Oh just for fun, one of Richter's outfits is CPAempire. Check out the parody site at SPAMempire.;)
It *might* be something like Computrace Plus which sits on a laptop and silently transmits audit information back over whatever IP network it connects to. They've got some case studies that show how the product actually works.
Basically, it's legitimate spyware. I've personally never used the product, although we are about to evaluate it.
RIAA-za is a much better file sharing application than Kazaa because, according to the developers.. RIAA-za picks up where Morpheus and Kazaa stop. This powerful application allows you to trade music, video, documents, spreadsheets, banking details and your private pornography collection with everyone else with RIAA-za installed.
There's a long and quite interesting thread in news.admin.net-abuse.email about an attempted "LART" on SpamCop by a well-known character called Jamie Baillie. This came out of a result of a long-running dispute between Mr Baillie and more or less everyone else who posts to that newsgroup.
There is no proven connection between the issues at the registrar and Jamie Baillie's attempt to have SpamCop shut down, but the complaint to Joker (the registrar) was anonymous and clearly vindictive.
Oh yes.. the domain name cesmail.net will often work in place of spamcop.net for those still struggling to get through.
This is *exactly* the basis for the plot in J G Ballard's bleak vision of the future, "The Drought" where the oceans become covered in a thin molecular film which prevents evaporation of the seas, and hence no rain.
In the book the film is caused by pollution, but it is almost impossible to disperse and remains resistant to the waves and man-made attempts to break up the film. In the end, humanity ends up clinging to life by the edges of the ocean, each person with their own solar-powered desalination plant.
A sobering thought if you've read the book. Imaging what whould happen if this stuff got loose?
According to this article this article at Mobileburn, the SC8000 is destined for the Korean market at the end of the year. Look closely at the press photo and you'll see that the markings are in Hangul.
However, it looks like a great unit from a technical perspective. However the styling looks like it was done by a bus manufacturer in downtown Seoul.. urgh.
Is this the best hybrid device yet? To quote from elsewhere..
The large screen and powerful processor on the Sony Ericsson P900 make it a great games platform too. The screen has 80% more pixels than the Nokia N-Gage offering better gameplay.
It's quite a large phone overall, but the Sony Ericsson P900 does have excellent battery life, with a maximum of 16 hours talk time and 20 days standby. The large screen on the P900 makes it ideal for organising data, appointments and contacts. The Sony Ericsson P900's PDA functions run on the Symbian OS, to give maximum performance from a mobile device.
Plus it plays MP3s, and with 128Mb memory sticks that should squeeze two full CDs into the P900.
I guess it's pretty good for a Symbian PDA/phone. However, the real competition might come from devices like the Voq Professional which has the backing of Micro$oft (and a clever keypad to boot).
All we need now is a decent megapixel digital camera rather than the rather lame 640x480 one in the P900.
The *only* thing I block with AdBlock on Mozilla is falkag.net - they've been serving up trojans for some time and my PC is all the safer for it.
tvtome.com also users falkag.net to serve advertising. What a coincidence, eh?
It's not the first time this has happened either, see this article relating to an incident that happened back in September with Falk AG.
