First off, this is outrageous! Not like I haven't been made aware of China's repression tactics and such before, but it's still amazes me.

    So, from the article:
But blanket censorship is reserved for extreme situations, and this fact reflects its long-standing dilemma: while it desperately wants to control the flow of news and opinion, especially dissent, it also wants an open, modern and efficient economy, including a state-of-the-art telecom and information infrastructure.

Wow! The statement that they're reserving censorship for 'extreme' situations is so bogus. Look at what they're doing! They're flat out trying to set up a fear driven filter system that would let them block a SINGLE WORD from entering ANY MEDIA source in the country! The idea that they could do this is amazing, and the fact that they're actually accomplishing it is even more so.

And as for an open economy, how the hell do you do that if the citizens can't participate? I suppose people get mind-numbed enough that even government driven mis-information is better than nothing, but at some point it becomes pointless doesn't it? The government will be forcing the economy down faster than it can grow.

Oh yeah, and... The authorities seem to have asked the websites to add the term Sars to the long list of banned words....

    ASKED!?! PFFFFFFFT!

Don't get me wrong. Yes, I'm an American living in the U.S. No, I have no idea what it would take to actually run a country with such a huge population. But, I'm fairly certain this isn't going to help anyone and will eventually be the govt's down fall. I try not to be judgemental, but I just can't believe that this kind of stuff is for the good of the people.

So this kid setteled and the RIAA agreed to obsolve him of any wrong doing. I'm assuming this means he can continue to operate his site as is without modification, since he got to pay them 12k to agree that he didn't do anything (ridiculous!!!). So, assuming he doesn't have to stop what he was doing, does the fact that they agreed that he did no wrong keep them from being able to sue him for the same thing again?

Absolutely! I do that now. But, I want it all digital without the need to scan the notes from tree corpses to get them in a digital format. And I want to get rid of the need to transfer data from a digital recorder to a PC before sending the meeting audio out to all the participants. Like I said, I could do all of this with my existing laptop. A tablet device would just get me closer to my ideal situation for this type of need. And that's not even mentioning all of the other use I'd get out of it.

My $.02: Besides just the general coolness of being able to read e-docs like you would read the newspaper or a book, my biggest use for something like this would be for all of the meetings, requirement gathering sesions, reviews, etc. I have to attend.

Something I've wanted to do for a long time is have an application or set of apps to record audio from a meeting (this thing has a built in microphone) and have a handy note pad to hand write notes on at the same time (I'm talking pages and pages of notes, diagrams, etc.). Most of the PDAs I've tried are too small for my taste and are cumbersome when taking lots of notes or don't have enough memory for the amount of audio I'd like to record (maybe with external media?). My laptop doesn't have a microphone (easy to resolve though), but my biggest issues with taking a laptop to meetings is typing on it is kind of annoying for everybody and you always have the screen between you and people across a table from you.

Obviously this could be done with M$ OS and software. But, that's where the big coolness factor comes in. Add in the shear number of *nix tools that I normally use to do other things simultaniously while in meetings on my laptop and I think it'd rock! I think I just convinced myself to buy one! ;-)

He basically alleges that he lost tons of revenue and incurred damages to his brand because other companies that paid for advertising and ranking using keywords such as "pets" and "warehouse" unfairly got more hits/click throughs than his site. He sues the copanies that paid for the advertising AND the search engines like there was some giant conspiracy to undermine his business.

So he's going off suing people because they are (I assume rightfully) complaining about his poor business practices in a public forum. Then he publicly defamates a LAWYER'S character and loses the whole business!!! What an ultra maroon! It's big time poetic justice that Mr. Benn will get his $50,000 settlement from the obliteration of the brand.
