I don't believe Bruce Perens had any intentions of violating the DMCA in the first place. Sounds he just wanted to attract media attention to the issue. Why didn't he get his employers (HP) permission in the first place? This sounds like he planned this stunt from the get go. The reason i choose Slackware as my first linux distro because it doesn't hide stuff from you.
I get 2 learn *nix the right way, by tweaking config files till it's running oh so Perfect.
Can't stand not knowing what these configuration programs are doing 2 my beutiful system, then when they fsck up, leaving me with little clues as 2 what went wrong.
Yeah, people these days just use Open Source coderz 2 kink out the bugs in the software.
Then they sell out 2 make some hard dosh $$$$

I'm still playing a really great 2d space shoot'em up called Subspace / Continuum made by Virgin Interactive Entertainment in the mid 95's.
VIE then dropped the game just after going retail.
It has really strong community supporting the game.
Now a new version of the game called Continuum has been reprogrammed from scratch to emulate the orginal version with added features.
