Like a few people have already stated, this is probably being used to make sure that no evil unlocked iPhones are using their services.

Also, it could be like MAC authentication because essentially an iPhone is just a client on their WAN.

Finally could this be a means of redirecting the apps to a new provider should Yahoo piss them off?

This sounds a lot like that Netscape Desktop thing that never actually made it out the door. Constellation was it? Around 1997 I sent an email to a Netscape engineer and told him I thought they should make Netscape into a shell for linux and he replied that I wasn't alone and to keep my eye's open. Maybe this is finally it!

    2. there is no IR/remote support on the mac mini, so no remote control. this is kind of a big and small deal at the same time. it would not have cost much for them to add support for this, yet it is a feature essential to media centers.

What about the one on the accessories page?

Way back when my brother was using windows 95 I thought it would be fun to try linux. What was cool about was that it was NOT like windows. In fact I had never seen anything so different from Windows. I bought a book with Red Hat 5.1 and it was good.

Now I know that Linux is great for servers as I run my own site on it but even as the desktop becomes more usable, it is boring. It's nothing but a second rate clone of windows. And I doin't use anything second rate so I went back to windows when XP came out.

Make Linux cool again. Make it different and BETTER than windows and you will win me back but as for now why bother?

    Thanks

One problem with the Windows 2000/XP Pro encryping file system that you should consider is that if you have an encrypted volume and you are forced or required to reinstall Windows for any reason you will loose access to that volume because the keys will not match. With PGP disk you simply need to enter the password.
