A selection of the best Scott McNealy quotes:
"When Steve Ballmer calls me wacko, I consider that a compliment."
"The only thing that I'd rather own than Windows is English, because then I could charge you two hundred and forty-nine dollars for the right to speak it."
"Shut down some of the bullshit the government is spending money on and use it to buy all the Microsoft stock. Then put all their intellectual property in the public domain. Free Windows for everyone! Then we could just bronze Gates, turn him into a statue and stick him in front of the Commerce Department."
"Microsoft is now talking about the digital nervous system... I guess I would be nervous if my system was built on their technology too."
"It's the good guys versus the bad guys, and the good guys are winning."
"W2K (Windows 2000) will be a bigger disaster than Y2K."
"A giant hairball." [About Windows NT]
"The Evil Empire." [guess who]
"The beast from Redmond." [yup]
"Anyone heard any good monopolist jokes lately?"
"Ballmer and Butthead" [Ballmer and you-know-who]
".Not,.Not Yet and.Nut" [Microsoft's.Net strategy]
I would buy a plug-in car if I could be guaranteed that when I go on lengthy trips that there would be a place to plug it in / recharge it (5 hrs doesn't sound too bad to me, time for food & a nap)... just like I can be guaranteed there's going to be a gas station around every freakin' corner
Yeah... I've seen similar scenarios where a parent got a kid a game for Christmas, Birthday, etc.... and after the kid rips it open and starts playing... the parents jaw drops (Resident Evil, Duke Nukem, etc.)... And I'm just sitting there listening to the story and thinking... you bought it you moron... read the frickin' box before you buy it!
Since when did it become a crime to become a man? I remember when I was younger running around with cap guns, bb guns, bow & arrows, etc.... Video games are the modern day equivalent... I haven't blown anybody's head off yet!
Reminds me of my undergrad... a smaller state school in the midwest... there were like 2 computer science female majors while I was there... and believe me, every cs major new who they were!
I went thru a similar cycle... but mine snapped back in my face... Windows everything till undergrad... Got introduced to Linux, Mozilla, Opera, etc. and wound up with a multi-booting Debian, Redhat, Mandrake desktop and a Debian laptop... then I gradu-macated... and now here I sit in the real world, at a bank, with a crappy Windows XP desktop... checking Slashdot with IE.
This kinda makes me feel stupid... I had an undergrad paper accepted at a conference and I went and presented there... I always felt good about that, cause I was sure some prof read it, enjoyed it, and thus the reason I got the call to present. I guess I was wrong... they don't read em, they just pick random ones out of the pile.
Yes, for most people... of their entire OS... all they really care about is their Internet Browser... so they can surf the net, check emails, etc.... And since IE comes as the default web browser, and most people aren't smart enough to know their are alternatives... I personally think IE has been a big winner for MSFT... not a blunder.
This reminds me of a re-run episode of that 70's show I just saw... in which Lori and Kelso were going out, and Red had a glimpse into the future... all the way to 1997... where they were all in space suits eating a futuristic dinner... and then Red gets up, foreign robot Fez gives him his Jet pack, and Red flies off through the open ceiling to Saturn for a business trip.
Your story brings back memories... I remember the black iron bar across the laptops... the missing power cables... and I even remember times when we'd sell a person an item, ring them up... then go back to storage and find out we didn't have any!!! and have to explain to a pissed off customer that we needed put the refund back on his credit card... and maybe just maybe he might want to look at a different laptop???:-)
I live in Wisconsin, and let me tell you from first hand experience... Governor Doyle has found some pretty damn good ways to waste his taxpayers money! This is just another example.
I worked at Staples... and I musta been a nice guy. Cause, the floor plan had all those stupid Gold USB cables hung right next to the printers, in easy grabbing distance (some cables were actually more expensive than the printer itself)... and anyways... each time I sold a printer, the customer would say something like... "Don't I need one of those cables?". And I'd respond something like... "No, not those, I'll go grab you a cheaper $18 one... they do the same thing."
I used to work at Staples during College. They didn't care how many computers, laptops, printers, etc. I sold... all they cared about was warranties. Honest to gosh, and it really pissed me off, everytime a computer, laptop, or printer walked out of the store without a warranty, my on-floor manager would walk over and give me a lecture... trying to tell me how to better pitch the warranty so that it wouldn't happen again. I even had one on-floor manager who told me I should never let a customer leave without a warranty... tell them whatever it takes... tell them the pc won't last, whatever... just don't let them leave without that warranty.
Platinum gets your system "professionally" installed by their techs as well as provides you access to the Platinum-only support line. Prices range from $79 for a two-year Bronze to $269 for a three-year Platinum
$269!!! I can get a much more powerful pc than they speak of in this article, with a 3 yr warranty for just over twice that amount ($500-600) off pricewatch somewhere.
All that overtime and their games still suck?
Professional Gaming is old news ... out the window ... instead turn your attention towards Proessional Poker ... that's where the real money is at!
From the review, this looks like a game I would let my 5 year old neice play.
Remeber this story?
I will still use Zone Alarm for my win boxes.

:-)
This won't fly well with the customers (or non-customers)

$660 !!! Make sure you buy the insurance on that baby!
... if you lean up against your desk at the wrong angle, it shatters and you need a replacement.
Stupid phones nowadays

I'd be more interested if the following wasn't true ...
Electronic Entertainment Expo - is closed to the general public

that randomizes an application's machine code
I think they got ahold of your pc! Either that or you just can't type.
