    As a developer at a large bank which requires us not only to use Lotus Notes, but to have it open at all times so we can be sametimed and be alerted of new emails ... I have to say it blows. If it wasn't for me being a developer and getting a P4 2.5ghz 1.2gb ram pc ... I would shoot myself now. I view my co-workers (non-developers) pc's occasionally and they're chugging along on their P3 256mb ram pc ... ouch.

    There is no way my bank could afford to go to Windows Vista ... 500 computers ... most of which are barely making the minimum requirements for Windows XP ... before my bank could even move to Windows Vista we're talking about re-hauling our entire supply of workstations ... will never happen ... wow!

    One problem will be selling this to customers ...
    Even some the non-techy customers will look at these specs
    The Municator, which comes with 256MB of RAM ... clocked at 400 or 600MHZ

    And say ... No wonder it's $150.00, it's a piece of crap

    It'll be insanely tough to convince customers that a 600mhz, 256mb ram linux machine is equivalent or better than a 2.0ghz, 512mb winbox

    That's exactly what I was thinking...but also ...

    Banks are generally reluctant to collaborate with other members of the financial community as they are worried about giving advantages to competitors

    Most banks (I work at one) are paranoid about lawsuits for absolutely anything (ex: if you wouldn't have shared you source code, that hacker wouldn't have found the flaw, and you wouldn't have lost your customer's information)... and so if they think that it could turn around and shoot them in the foot ... they aren't going to do it.
