Prolly true, but then try playing Half-Life2 in Linux. How much better are your frame rates now? Until Linux has enough games to compete with MS, Windows will be a better platform for games regardless of Linux's technological supiriority. Even though the X-Box has better graphics, most people will say that the PS2 is better. Why? Because it has more games that is why.

I don't know much from a game coder angle, but my position in recent years has been that Linux is a OS for getting work done, and Windows is an excellent platform for games. With Microsoft in the console market with the X-Box, maybe they are preparing themselves to be a game company when Linux takes over the desktop market (if it does). Another piece of support for microsoft and gaming is this: the last few nights I've been playing Asheron's Call 2, and I gotta say it pwns everquest as far as getting a new player started and interested.

okay macoder47, very funny, I like your use of sarcasm. The point I was trying to get across is that Alienware PCs are specialized PCs primarily for people who want to play the newest, hardest hitting PC games, at the top graphical levels. I thought that was something one could assume from my post if they didn't already know what an Alienware system was.

But like you pointed out, some people like to do other things with their computers. For developers of mac stuff, hey, a mac is a great deal. I would never reccomend an Alienware PC for a mac developer.

have you ever looked at an alienware PC? The video card alone might run you $500.

Alienware PCs are gameing systems pure and simple. MACs, no matter how cool, fast, 64 bit, sexy, are not gameing systems. I am not talking theory here (they should be able to play games well) I am talking reality. And reality is that a lot, probably most, games are not released for the mac, and if they are it is a half-assed port sometimes years after the PC original came out. If this guy bought an alienware PC it means 3 things. 1.He wants to play games 2.He has more money than I do -and- 3.he is too lazy to build the same thing on his own with individual parts.

Now with his Alienware pC, when inspiration hits him he will be able to make that awesome Neverwinter Nights module he'd been thinking about for days. No matter how cool his Mac is he won't be able to do that...

God damn I hate giving up the ability to mod this discussion, but I gotta say something.

I disagree with both this post, and it's parent. Most of the kids I know who are "growing up" with computers know less than the regular users of yesterday (they not only know what a command line was, but what to do with it too). They don't know about Mozilla or Opera, they know about AIM and Yahoo messanger, and free blogs that don't require knowing anything.

They're not afraid of computers cause it is an everyday part of their life, not cause they know about them. The computer has been dumbed down to the level of the television for most of them. Being a computer nerd is not as bad a rap these days because it takes almost no commitment or learning to be obsessed with using the thing.

I do not think that they are going to release a live version of Evangelion.

    --Spoiler Alert--
--If you haven't seen the Eva movies don't read--

In the middle of The second Eva movie there is a trippy live film part that showed a few things from modern day Japan, trains, buildings, a cat i the rafters, and empty movie theater. But originally there was a whole scripted live action part with people portraying Asuka, Rei, Touji, and Misato in an alternate universe from the one we see in the animated parts. You actually see parts of the original live action part at the begining of the End Of Evangelion disc, but no the whole thing, and Manga did not translate it.

I hate to do this to his server, but there is a great write up of the live action part at EvaOtaku.Com

I am betting that this original live action sequence is what they are releasing and not a live action version of the movie.

Emo is hardly progressive these days and is pretty much just as sold out as the rest of the pop-punk genre. I mean even Hot Water sounds kinda wishy washy now. I still love em, but they changed when they got on Epitaph or Fat or which ever major indie label they are on now.

In defense of Blink I gotta just ask have any of you ever listened to their old stuff? I mean before Duderanch? They slowed down a little, but are still pretty much the same guys singing about the same gross stuff. I predict that if you took away the money and the fame and stuff they would still be singing the same songs and making the same jokes. It's really the public's fault they are so popular. And seriously, I would love to get paid what they get paid to suck and tell fart jokes. More power to em.

I currently have two operating computers. My desktop system is a painfully old PIII 800Mz running Win2k(it duel boots to SuSE 8 when I want to dabble and learn). But my laptop is an iBook 700mhz, and I love it.

My reasons are: PIII)Want games, want to add hardware when I want from just about whatever source I want. The PIII is mostly a frankenstein of parts either bought or traded from friends. Unfortunatly I could not do this with a Mac.

    But...

iBook) Want small, only 12.1 inch screen, the thing is tiny, fits in my backpack no prob. My friend's dell required him to buy a new "laptop" backpack. Want tough, magnesium caseing, rubber mounted hard drive, the thing is like a small tank in the laptop world. Want Unix, without all the trouble linux causes in laptops. Yeah I know it is very possible to have a very workable linux laptop, but I don't think it is possible to have a very workable linux laptop that works out the box, and I can send back to the company when the DVD-CDRW drive goes kaput.

Would I own a Mac desktop, at the moment, hell no! They would need to be more competative in both the speed and the price arenas for me to even consider it.

But my point is this, there are people out there who have weighed the differences and made the choice of both. OSX is easy, and fast, and pretty. Win2K (sorry don't know about XP) is where most of my professional experience lays so troubleshooting it easy, and it plays games, and it was hella cheap ($50 OEM version when I bought my HDD).
