It certainly wasn't "electrons" I saw at first glance. I thought there must have been some cheap dodgy form of Viagra on the market with really bad side effects!
Actually, my experience with Citibank is that they pretty much do hand out accounts on street corners. I can remember more than one occasion when I've been pounced on and hounded by their sales people while walking through an airport minding my own business.
Any organisation that feels they need to conduct business in that manner I stay well away from!
My new approach to them is try to keep my distance and avoid eye contact at all costs:P.
Hmmm as a TomTom owner I can't help but feel a little ripped off. The price of the iPhone app including maps is considerably less than the cost of upgrading to the newest maps on the TomTom itself.
I actually thought the ability to pass an array via a query string was actually more part of the HTTP standard than something that was developed especially for PHP.
I only used it once to try it out, and I'm sure everyone else who has used it did the same thing as me. Which of course it to make your own website number one:P
But really, what is the point of doing that when you're the only person that will ever see it?
Unincorporated partnerships, associations, sole proprietorships and individuals are currently not eligible for Extended Validation Certificates; however, this limitation will be addressed in the next major revision of the standard.
So this means that they are only locked out in the first version of the standard, and it's likely to change in the future.
We found these guys because they were too dumb to change the address of the style sheet from the original server, and some of them even left links back to the original site. If these are the ones we managed to find it scares me how many there could be that we don't know about.
We've often wondered what kind of legal recourse we could we could take against these people, I imagine it would be quite difficult to take action since all the copy cats are all in different countries.
From December 22th, 2003 to January 4th, 2004 there will be a short revival of our Berlin installation: Blinkenlights Reloaded. The building Haus des Lehrers - currently under reconstruction - will be operated as we did it before. A new version of BlinkenPaint lets you create movies and you can play the interactive game Pong and activate your personal loveletters with your mobile phone.
Pong and your loveletters await you when you dial 0190-987654. A call is EUR 1,24 per minute (with every second counted). The income goes to the CCC to cover operational costs so that we can keep Blinkenlights free from ads now and in the future.
Blinkenlights Reloaded uses the technology we have developed for Arcade in Paris last year. That means greyscales. Version 3 of BlinkenPaint supports this as well as our new movie file format BML.
We invite you to send us your animations which we will bring to life on the big screen. And it works like this: [1] create your movies with BlinkenPaint, [2] save them in a text file (BML) and [3] attach it to an e-mail to
movies@blinkenlights.de
If the movie is a personal Blinkenlights Loveletter and you want to get a code to activate your movie yourself at any time, send it to loveletters@blinkenlights.de instead.
We are happy to be able to bring Blinkenlights back to life and hope it won't be the last time. For us the first installation was big fun and this time it should no less. If you don't know the first incarnation, check out our documentation video.
We also hope that we won't get flooded by movies. We are going to be quite busy during as there is the Chaos Communication Congress taking place at the same time just next to the building. So things can get lost. But we are willing to have a look at everything we get, but we are just not going to make promises that your movie will run.
Actually it was a guy from New Zealand who did this...... Let's make the distiction that Australia and New Zealand are two totally seperate countries, how would you like it if I called you a Canadian;-)
If they at least have some background knowledge of the production process and the technology behind it.
If your project manager lacks the knowledge to make imporant planning decisions early in the project they should at least know when to ask for help and opinions of those that do know...... Only in my experience I've found that those without the knowledge don't even know when to ask:0P
Our company (a very small web developer) recently underwent some serious downsizing, and not by choice. The first staff to go were the project management staff that had been screwing things up by misscommunicating issues with clients and making promises that could not be kept. Since then the more senior members of production staff have been left to manage themselves and the junior staff members.
Not surprisingly there has been a lot less go wrong lately, our relationships with clients has improved in a big way, and our general reputation as a web developer is on the up.
There are disadvantages to being a project manager that knows the tech side of things (eg. knowing when to deligate to others and not take on too much yourself), but IMHO get rid of the nimrods that don't know what the techies are doing and things will run a whole lot smoother:0D
Um well to start with Mandrake is based on RedHat. It's probably better suited for desktop use than for a server because in my experience I found it had loads and loads of bloat! There's only so many things you can put the Mandrake logo on without reducing system performance:0P
I haven't had a lot of experience with SuSE but from what I've seen it's target at the less experienced user and again it's better suited for desktop use.
RedHat just keeps getting easier and easier to set up and use. It's fine to use for a desktop with out so much bloat as other distros (that's not to say it doesn't have bloat at all though). I've been using it on servers for years (since versionn 5.2) without a problem.
Of course you do need to bare in mind that the more popular a distribution is the better supported it is. One of the good reasons for choosing RedHat is that because there are so many people using it if you ever run into a problem chances are someone else has had the same problem before and found the answer.
Some of the other distros do have great reputations, such as Debian, but they also have a rep for being less user friendly. I guess it depends how much free time you have for playing around with things.....In a corporate environment there ain't a whole lotta time!
You can read the Tasmanian version of the story here. Including a really neat picture of the last Tassie Tiger.
We Tasmanians all grew up seeing pics of this little guy, there's also some really neat footage of him pacing around in his cozy cement floored cage. Good to see they made him comfortable in his final days;0)
He liked it so much, now he's coming back for more!
...he's the biggest interrupter you could imagine!!
Whenever I get anywhere near the zone he's gotta come and talk to me for ages about things that are totally unrelated to what I'm working on and then it takes even longer to get back to the zone after he's finished.
I think it's import for managment to realise that they can't just barge in and interrupt production staff at a whim whenever they choose to.
What we've tried to do in our office is to regularly set aside some time when production staff can be interrupted..... but of course it jsut doesn't work like this:0p
Interesting that the distrubuted network software was introduced in the last two months. I remember running Kazaa at some point during the last two months and recieved a message telling me that a new version of Kazaa is available that will help increase the speed at which search results are returned. It then went on to say the sooner everyone installed it the sooner everyone would benefit.
Is it just me or was there something a bit deceptive going on herre??

*Yawn* this was already done in Australia in 1986.
Can't the Hungarians come up with anything original?
It looks like the price has dropped, but maps for Australia are still $99.95 AUD which equals around $82 USD at the moment.
But the price of new maps is still so high that you might as well buy a new GPS with all the latest features, or go for the iPhone option.
Hmmm as a TomTom owner I can't help but feel a little ripped off. The price of the iPhone app including maps is considerably less than the cost of upgrading to the newest maps on the TomTom itself.

Nah, he's going to take a "BM Machine" eh you hoser! ;)
I only used it once to try it out, and I'm sure everyone else who has used it did the same thing as me. Which of course it to make your own website number one :P

Of course the girls should make a calender! That's what was done in Australia to show that women in IT are just as hot as any other women.
Everyone in Australia know's that the CWA is the Country Women's Association.
...More than once with the same site.
The original site www.tasadventures.com some how got listed on www.coolhomepages.com, since then the design has been copied many times by sites such as: www.visitmongolia.com, www.bracecompany.com (what those guys do is scary and icky!) and www.mobilebikerentals.com.
We found these guys because they were too dumb to change the address of the style sheet from the original server, and some of them even left links back to the original site. If these are the ones we managed to find it scares me how many there could be that we don't know about.

Half of congress will want the dome open and half will want it closed.
;0)
Oh well I guess they'll be to busy arguing about it to come up with any more dumb laws like the DMCA
But you simply can't forget about 'cd +' which takes you to the directory you're about to change to ;0)
Same thing we do everynight Pinky.......Try to take over the worlds media!

Well it looks like we Slashdotted it already.

Hell I'll build two and save one just for driving to church on the weekends.
