Sure, that was Googles first choice too, but i`m on a PC with net nanny software which classes sites such as that and The Onion is mere frivolous humour!
SlashDot costs a couple of million? What for? Hardware? Bandwidth? Katz?
Load the ads, but dont look at them? Whats the point in that? Thats like the lame sites which say `click on my sponsors ads`. Why? They want sales, proof that it works...not proof that only 0.01% of viewers buy something!
"You guys who complain about these ads all the time are fscking morons"
I dont complain about them all the time, since i block them. Nice and fast, that way, and no adverts for foreign companies which are of no interest or use to me.
I contribute to SlashDot with my witty and insightful comments!;)
Screw digital music? Suppose you want to make your own music at home. I do. Good to know that while i`m learning about it, and creating cds, some fat coke head in the record industry is making money out of me already - and i`ve not even been signed yet!

"working for Microsoft seem like a good alternative"
I`ve heard nothing to suggest that working for Microsoft is anything other than good. Have there been some horror stories i`ve missed out on (whiny stock-racism complaints on behalf of temporary workers doesnt count)?
So you wouldnt sue someone if they knew about this risk, but ignored it, and you lost materially from it? Yeah, i`m sure you`d go `Naaah, i could sue him, but what do i want millions in punative damage for?`
I dont get it. My tv cost me £120, contains a video recorder and teletext. Why would i want to spend loads more? Whats worth watching on tv anyway? I just dont understand these people who spend $,000`s on 5.1 sound and huge flat screens etc. What do you DO with them? Just watch fucking star wars dvds over and over? Unbelievable!
I guess it wouldnt be too stressful for every linux based company to have 1 single windows machine, set up to accept.doc files and return them as.rtf,.txt etc.
Yep - you are Microsoft Hater #95197!

"and it'll help out Slashdot"
How?
Jumbo jets are sub orbital. In fact, my mates scooter is, isnt it? Its certainly sub-light speed!
"Has anyone else noticed those huge ads that seem to be randomly appearing in the middle of articles?"
No, but i use JunkBusters. I sometimes see an empty square - thats about it.

Ha! So that loony David Icke is wrong - again!

are generally shitty, cheap, unplayable copies of decent American ones (Fender, Gibson etc). Dont buy one!
"Verio is making the decision for their customers as to whether or not to accept email from John's open relay"
Seems fair enough. Who do you think are the best people to decide what Verio does with its hardware, time and money?
"Napster was the equivalent of openly selling burgler's tools"
Burglers tools are things like torches, crow-bars, small bits of metal etc.
"But when the only reason you know the "friend" is that they were advertised "by" Napster as having particular files"
Sort of like ebay, who are not responsible if you get in touch with someone for the purposes of buying stolen property.
Yep, that sounds about right - contrived and unfunny as ever.
Phew! Thought i`d wasted the last 5 years of my professional life using the wrong language!
You have an entitlement to rip your own cds, and if this entitlement is infringed, then you have a case.
So you wouldnt sue someone if they knew about this risk, but ignored it, and you lost materially from it? Yeah, i`m sure you`d go `Naaah, i could sue him, but what do i want millions in punative damage for?`
If SlashCode is so good, whats wrong with just using SlashDot as a forum for discussing things? Not up to it?
Its probably all Linux needs to make it susceptable to a SSSCA legal attack!
"When I was a boy, we had to study math and science to be recognized as geeks! Now, you just have to play computer games"
I thought they were called `Vidiots`?
Thats pretty amusing, seeing how Blizzard has to sue people to stop them using their own lag-free networks cos the official ones suck so much!
Thats where i sell all my old shit!

Well, the story is years old (sure i read about it in NewsWeek), and nothing to do with computers or nerds, so i`d say its 100% perfect here.

You could have put 'avoid "CDs"', as they arent really CDs as far as Philips is concerned. Check out:
