Engadget and Gizmodo are not pro-Apple. They are pro-pageviews, because that's what fills out their paychecks and in the tech world, there is no surer pageview bait than an Apple related article.
If you haven't noticed, Google is now popular they've had Wall-to-Wall coverage of Google for the past week.
Look at mainstream science fiction; one of the holy grails is a computer that just does whatever you tell it to do without giving it any specifics or getting techy. It figures that out on it's own and does it. To most people, this would be magic, and like it or not and despite all their shortcomings, Apple is closer to this goal than any other company.
This feels like the iPod and iPhone launch all over again with the endless spec sheet checklist comparisons. Netbooks can do a LOT of things. Apple's "magic" is taking the half dozen things that people do the most and doing them well. If they can't do it well, they leave it out until they can figure it out. When I play a full screen video on my netbook, I have to go "oh let me make sure every other application is closed, and all these background services are turned off and that I'm not in super battery saver mode so it doesn't stutter. Let me look up the shortcuts for the player were again because the keys are really small and hard to find in the dark. Let me adjust the screen angle because the viewing angle is so bad." At a certain point in your life you just go "just play the damn thing already so I can enjoy it".
Wrong. The Ipad isn't built for Apple's customers, it's built for Apple.
When you say it "doesn't carry the drawbacks of a computer", you're simply being dishonest: it would cost nothing in user experience to allow multitasking or free installation of software. A full OS X with the iPhone GUI would be fantastic, and relatively easily accomplishable. It would come with no extra draw-backs for the user whatsoever. And you know this perfectly well.
But this would cost Apple a lot, in that a user with choice wouldn't be tied to iTunes. The question is: why are you being dishonest? Apple probably doesn't pay you a cent for your work as a freelance advertising agent. And why is this bullshit so prevalent among Apple fanboys? There's a reason why you guys are called a cult: you are one.
Have you actually used a desktop OS with a touchscreen? I have and they are all gimmicky. Go grab a netbook with a 10" screen. Start sticking your finger all over the screen. Start with the max/min/close buttons and note how your finger more than covered up all three. That's just the start. Almost every UI element is too damn small to be touched or too damn close to something else that you don't want to accidentally press.
Microsoft has failed hard over the last decade with tablets because they have engineers like you who only think about the spec sheet and have never actually sat down and tried to use their own product.
Take a good look behind Bush, the people who actually put thoughts into his head: Cheney, Rummy, Wolf, etc. Those guys have been in every republican administration for decades. When they outlive their current host, they'll simply move on to the next one. It won't end at 8 years.
You do know that Sun does have this entirely separate business which is thousands of times larger (not to mention almost 35,000 people) than their Linux/GNU related business? Trying to compare their output against that of a company whose core business is Linux/GNU is absolutely stupid. That's like comparing Apple's contribution to mice technology with Logitech's.
"This is why they need to restore the restrictions on ownership of broadcast stations. This wouldn't be an issue if Viacom wasn't allowed to actually OWN these 16 broadcast stations..."
I was just reading this when I flipped over to the Wall Street Journal (paid subscription). Viacom now wants to buy its own cable systems company. Things can only get worse.
Other than adding cool but useless features that do little more than drain battery life at an awesome rate is there any other point to the ipod having a color screen?
This is why the US treasury has announced that they will start redesigning bills every few years. Having the largest amount of currency and fickle customers, they like to take things more slowly.

Ha no. Remember they need to prove to the shareholders that the merger was the right move with dramatically increasing profits. Can't be doing that when you're lowering overall profit margins.
can't they build a little brush or something that would pop out and wipe off some of the dirt from time to time? Even an extra week would be worth the cost.
It also allows us to retain our creative imaginations. If I feel like re-reading Harry Potter, I just put on the DVD and get it over with in two hours, same thing. With Lord of the Rings however, some the scenery may be more beautiful, the characters, much, much hotter, but at least I still get to use my imagination and enjoy it because so much of it is still foreign and wide open. I treat the book and the movie simply as two different flavors of one story.
A lot of Slashdot members don't realize why there is Microsoft software on the Mac at all. Microsoft software on the Mac had become so incredibly bad that the executives at Microsoft sat down one day to discuss killing the division. As they talked, one executive expressed interest in buying the Mac division if it was dropped. Office ain't $500 for nothin. The other execs quickly figured out how many bucketloads of cash it could be worth if done right and decided to keep it. The Mac division was started from scratch to be done right. Most of the division is just Macheads trying to make great software. That's why their stuff is always better than the stuff from Redmond. The 5 year agreement was mostly for PR and to stabilize the platform/stock price. Apple's stock shot up 33% after the deal was announced and many analysts held back on their doomsday speeches.
You're totally right. Kevin Browne who runs the division said that they pretty much meet with their Windows counterparts to decide on a common file format, and other than that, they never see them again.

Isn't the Microsoft Mac business based in SF rather than Redmond though?
How is this different from every other WTO member including the US?
And if you do think its there to compete with the iPod, Apple would like to congradulate you for forking over an extra $50 to them.

Comcast is larger than Disney. Was much larger until today (Disney's stock shot up while Comcast plummeted)

And this is why studios will often shell out $10 million for one actor then stick us with the bill. They're often worth it.
No, that was a rumor started by an Anti-Mac troll. According to Macrumors, a more reliable source, there are no such plans.
You can kill the popup ads in the preferences, I did that for some AOL users and they never saw popup ads again.
This will happen to any PDA. A typical lithium battery drains itself in a month.
Thats why you should try reading articles before posting to slashdot. It's not even close to being a Zaurus ripoff.
