I have found that if you are switching between operating systems (Linux/Windows) probably my favorite editor is JEdit.
It is written in Java as an Open Source programmers editor. It is quite fast and has MANY 3rd party plug-ins that allow it to go above and beyond most other editors I have used. (Including my daily Delphi IDE).

Have you thought about CLX?

wxWindows vs. MFC

CLX is the cross platform version of Borland's VCL which is used in Delphi and C++ Builder. Delphi has a counterpart in Kylix that would allow dual development for both Linux and Windows.. the only downside being you would have to know Delphi (Object Pascal). But it seems as a great multiplatform tool. There are free personal versions of Delphi and Kylix on Borland's website for GPL use, but to distribute a commercial application without the initial popup you would have to purchase one, get someone else to compile them for you, or compile both in Delphi and Kylix.
Good luck in whatever you choose.
...and an opportunity to revitalize their economy.
Actually I don't think it would be to bad for the WORLD economy.
But there are far to many holes in the seive that it seems much of the money MAY go unaccounted for?
I hope not, and I hope this is sincere.
"It also means good planning ahead of time, since there will be no "post-production" stage where you can clean up the mistakes, and perform the minute adjustments needed to make things just right."
Where did this come from? Without actors or a standard "crew" pickups and such would be unnecessary...and any new scenes or modified scenes could be done cheaper and less costly. Scenes still have to be rendered and edited, but if somethign isn't right, they can go back an add a scene or modify and re-render an existing one for a fraction of the cost.
Hmm.. and have to pay 10x the normal amount for parts, the inability to fix ANYTHING myself (as the hacker community likes to), and have to be mr plastic to be able to pull an alternator out... whatever. Say what you want about GM, but I am stuck to em like stink on shit;)
I enjoyed my Erector Set (1980s version) MUCH more then any legos I or anyone else ever had. I simply believe the Erector is much closer to a "real world" modeling with metal. I wish they didn't ruin the erector like they did. PLEASE SOMEONE BRING BACK ERECTOR! -- and add a mindstorms like component -- or I'll just have to RMO.
Most erector stuff is all collector stuff, but you can find som inexpensive erector parts on EBAY for cheap.
Just my $0.02
I would choose Java.
Specifically for Garbage collection and Multiple platform support.
The multiple inheritance issue can be easily wrapped and simplified.
I would first do a UML outline diagram of what EXACTLY you want, and find the language from there. I think you will find Java to suit your needs the best though.
No-one likes to state the OBVIOUS. While not necessarily just open source, but unique to the GPL, open source hurts software companies by replacing their product with a free version. How can they compete with that? Especially when someone (like Red Hat) can do the support end of the software so that managers can still point their fingers when something goes wrong.

No way...
Fuck em. Yes, I am displaying a degenerate attitude and lack of intelligence, however, I am being honest.
Dueling with a lightsaber... every geeks dream ;)

Yes, I think you are correct on all accounts.

You be the judge. I see Think Geek ads all the time!
What the heck kind of Ask Slashdot post is this?
