I loved the original, but..

Tron: Legacy

For me, the sequel was a total bore. I mean, don't get me wrong, the CG was very good, and the soundtrack was amazing.. but I mean, the first one was mostly about exploring this new world and concepts and CG that had never been seen before. But the reality now is, CG is second nature; it's used everywhere. And the world? Well I already knew about it from #1. There was nothing new. They gave what the people who loved the original wanted to see, but new new ships or anything.
More importantly, you can't just spend 90% of a movie on dramatic entrances and poor dialogue and expect it to hold up. If you don't believe me, re-watch legacy and count just how many dramatic entrances took place. The fact is, they had all the ingredients for making a truly amazing movie, and they completely failed to deliver. I wish it wasn't so.
Well I hate the word "cyberwar", but I wasn't really sure what else to call it. It seems that warfare has finally taken place at the computer level. It will be interesting to see where it goes from here..
Personally, I'd prefer war this way. Less lives lost.
Remind me again, why we aren't using hemp instead of oil and corn? Oh right, something to do backdoor deals made to vilify hemp back in the day. I guess this isn't the first time political agenda has come before the good of people.. and it sure won't be the last.
While I'm all for new technology, we're also entering an era I like to call developer soup. Maybe I just coined that. In any case, there's no good way to target all the platforms anymore. You might argue HTML5, but really only Chrome is useful for that (right now), and many do not run Chrome. Many in fact, still use IE6/7/8 at corps.
It kind of stinks, because before you could make an app for one platform and hit a lot of targets, but not anymore.. Android, iOS, BBOS, Windows, Linux, Mac, MeeGo, the diversity is difficult, at best, if you want an all encompassing app. Ah well, I guess HTML4 for now, HTML5 in 18 months.
In the "settings" of android, there's an entire section where you can get the privacy information from Google et al. It tells you exactly what it's recording. Maybe you think they're violating that? I find that unlikely, as they would be breaking the law pretty blatantly.
Not exactly directly related but.. People seem to forget that android isn't "just google's", it's the OHA. So you should, if you're going to worry about them stealing your privacy, worry about more than just google.
While I'm happy Microsoft is investing in open source, I find that their target is fairly suspicious.. what easier way to take on IBM indirectly than to give money to an open source company who is already in conflict with them.
In addition, it's not like Microsoft isn't already trying to embrace open source. You'd be surprised at just how much stuff is released under MS-PL licence. And while that may anger you, as it's their own licence, it's rather free.
I'm sorry, how is this possibly a "preview" when there is not one screen shot? One link goes to an older/. article, the other goes to an all text article.
Can you please stop naming things that don't have photos like they do have photos?
Am I the only one who thought, "750mb is kind of large for a phone"? I know you can use a WiFi when you decide to buy/download, but it still seems pretty excessive to me, for a phone.
It seems like everyone is more impressed with the size then thinking it's kind of ridiculous. Maybe I'm getting old..
That's a little dramatic, isn't it? Mono is the open source implementation of.NET, which is a very solid framework I might add, though clearly MS did wield it to further Windows (I don't deny that). Mono is released under GPL, LGPL, and MIT licenses http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mono_(software).
I mean, facts are facts, so why do you have to be so dramatic about it? Or I mean.. did it.. where did Mono touch you? You can tell me.
Once again I find the summary lacking. I had to read TFA to find the actual link to his twitter: http://twitter.com/stevebmicrosoft. There really isn't much there.. which explains why: a) he didn't announce it, and b) why we shouldn't care. Which of course leads to: c) why is this on slashdot?
That's a significant change in size. Usually when such a drastic change occurs, it means they originally included many things that weren't necessary. That leads me to believe they really didn't care about this before.
This is how google takes over the world! Soon there will be a very small dot somewhere in google maps called "googleland", and then over time the borders will expand. But nobody will question it, because it must be right.
Regardless of the fact that 'things you put on the internet are now public', there is a point that these companies are a little devious in their methods of selling your information. I think mistakes are being made on both sides: users assuming everything is private (I have no idea why), and companies abusing that fact.
I don't think anything will come of this lawsuit except media attention, which will hopefully make users smarten up, thus making this less of an issue.
I don't know about everyone else, but I've had no less than 4 devices in the last year have faulty Li-Ion batteries (they didn't hold a charge, or ran out much faster than they should have). Each time I had to exchange the device for a new one, at which point it worked as expected.
Is this really how batteries are now? It's pathetic.
This is a pretty lame release, as things go. Actually, it's worse than lame as they're now locking down Mac OSX just like they do with iOS.
The strange thing is that Apple *used* to be all pro-open with the "we run Darwin, Windows sucks" stuff back in the day when they claimed closed and integrated systems (Windows + IE) were horrible. My how the turn tables...
If oil continues an upward trend, and we don't find a suitable substitute, air travel will become far more expensive in the future. The air line industries are already having difficulty, so maybe they will subsidize by selling some aircraft off for recycling.
Instead of just one house though, they could probably use the materials to do a lot more. I don't know what. Is there rare earth elements in them? Maybe that part alone will become worth more than the plane if China has its way.
This is an odd argument. Isn't Mac OSX based on some *NIX, and don't they tout the "openness" of it? Wasn't this a huge argument against windows, back when windows had a death grip on the desktop market? Funny how Apple had such a big problem with Microsoft when they "integrated" IE/Media Player/etc into their OS, yet they just do the same thing themselves.
What the hell is going on here. Is Steve Jobs just saying anything to sell more devices? I'm so confused.
This isn't exactly a crazy revelation. OMGZ "HACKERS" (that's not even the right term) WANT MONEY. There's so many things wrong with this article, especially the fact that it's not even bringing new information, that I don't understand why this is even on/.
I recently got an Asus EEE (1001px) netbook as a gift, and it came with Windows 7 starter. Now, I use windows 7 at home (ultimate) and I don't dislike it, but I was very unhappy with starter. You can't even change the background image, I mean, what the fuck.
Anyways, I used to use linux (I mean, like 10 years ago when I was in highschool I used to use debian and slackware), but haven't really since. I decided to try ubuntu so I did a USB installation and put 10.10 netbook edition. I have to say, it was just as easy (if not easier) than a win7 installation (which I have to do often), and is WAY better on a netbook.
I think people who say linux is popular on portables are exactly right. It's an awesome fit, and I love it.
Okay.. so the study shows that the region in our brain that is associated with social interactions gets more active when you talk about a friend, rather than a stranger, even if the stranger has more in common with the individual.
I just.. I mean, I read this '"The authors address an important component of social cognition -- the relevance of people close to us," Montague said.' but I still don't understand - why is this relevant? What does it matter? What possible invention or furtherance to science will this lead to?
I understand why we need studies, and why we study things that are "obvious." But I just don't see the relevance this time.. it feels like a bunch of scientists circle jerking themselves off lately when I read studies.

The summary says approved.. I.. didn't read TFA. When will it actually come online?

I was going to do this for fun, but by question 10 I didn't care anymore.
Slow server (perhaps because of Slashdot), and too many questions = meh

My $0.02..
Why doesn't the summary include a picture of the gingerbread statue after making a specific reference to it?
Anyways, this has a small picture and a video with it actually being unveiled (I couldn't find a better article with an actual pic): http://www.pcr-online.biz/news/34973/Google-unveil-Android-Gingerbread

What's going on here. He's over 60, and a musician, didn't he do a lot of drugs in his youth? Why isn't he dead yet?
I was kind of hoping darwin would have taken care of these old pro-RIAA musicians already with a gentle dose of death.
I don't know if you're full of shit or what, because I run 10.10 on my EEE (1001px) and it's fast as lightning.
