  1. Whats all the fuss about? on Feds to Recommend Paper Trail for Electronic Votes · · Score: 1
The worlds largest democracy(In numbers) has successfully shifted to Electronic Voting machines without any major tech issues and issues on tampering etc., The number of voters there is close to 1 Billion.

To top it all India is still a developing country with a large percentage(40%+) of the voters being completely illiterate. If India can do it, so can US, its more of a will problem rather than tech

A GRE score of 99 is common. No wonder you see so many Indian students there.

Check out the books from India on sites like firstandsecond.com which have the type of questions.

You have to understand third world farming traditions and mindsets. India is currently a food surplus nation(the starving people are a result of mismanagement). The farmers grow the crop, keep some of the seed, sell the rest and regrow. When monsato came, it came with a proposal that the farmers will have to buy seed for every season, because it was sterile. To add insult to injury, there was a possibility that if there is cross pollination etc., the neighbours crop with normal seed will also produce sterile seed. Wether this was true or just a rumour, both these statements(one of which was definately true) had the farmers up in arms. It was not opposition to genetically modified food. Indian universities in have produced high yielding varieties which were accepted without any opposotion.

It was more of the american way of growing food, they buying seed for every season thing which led to so much opposition. Similar is case with readymade food. Though not opposed, there was the fear of similar scandals as drug scandals. American companies have a history of collaborating shady Indian small time drug manufacturers who hire humans for trials for pittance, because they know that due to poverty for 1000$ you can get a willing subject.

The problem came that there were so many of they protestors that it was a deluge. Even the most brutual of officers could not bring themselves to gunning down women and children. Eventually this boycott etc., came to such a stage that keeping India was not an economically viable option. That was the only reason. British empire had reduced from a great empire in which the sun never set to a small slum in the new world, drained by WW-II. So it had to leave. I reach home and open the netgear box, and I see its empty. the Airline was Cathay Pacific, which is considered among the more reliable ones! If you browse some camera forums, you will see so many cases of lenses and accessories being stolen from checkin baggage. So a sturdy bag will protect only from impact and such. If you really love your ipod/laptop etc., etc., make sure that you insure all of them. Something tells me that baggage handlers and Homeland security officials are right now rejoicing about this rule. After all of something in stolen, its the airline which pays right, they can happily gift their kids the latest gadgets.

Some poor schmuck who was crossing the signal and light went yellow get the boot. Its easier to ticket him, though the risk posed by some jerk weaving through lanes is much more. The most balatant misuse of this is in India. Set the speed limit to 80kmph. Everybody who hits 80+ be it 81kmph get a 400rs ticket. If somebody is doing 150, that chap also gets 400rs fine. But vehicles with no tail lights which actually pose a threat at night, are let go, because the fine is very very low in the books. At the end of the month, a percentage of fines collected is given to the cops. So rather than catch jerks who jump red lights, which would involve giving a chase and at the most give you a 100rs fine, its great to hide on an empty road with stupid speed limit(50kmph) knowing that someone doing 51 will definately come.

I used to think back pain is something others get, inspite of getting a minor problem long time back(school). About a few year ago, I think it was 2002, I suffered a really bad fall. Due to that I started getting sever back pain. At that time I understood what exactly is lumbar support, and in my quest for the perfect seating postures as well as a comfortable driving position I found out the following things

    1. Good posture seat is a misnomer. When a guy tells you, this 500$ chair is made to cure back pain, he is talking out of the other hole. You see we all come in different shapes and sizes. A chair which is good for a 5 foot 5 inch guy is not going to be good enough for a 6 foot guy. Same is true for car seats also. Some cars which I find extermely comfortable and relaxing for my back, simple dont work for others and vice a versa. So when you go shopping. Sit on a chair for an hour or so. 5 min wont tell you anything. And dont take this lightly, back pain is a ghost which can become impossible to exorcise.
    2. Excercise. Yes everybody tells you so, and its the best advice. Actually walking long distances with back straight is a great excersise. So is cycling on a stationary cycle or one with good suspension and decent roads

Keep these two things in mind and your spine will last you long, very very long

  24. Sacrifice power, and you can go a long way on UBC Engineers Reach Mileage Of Over 3000 MPG · · Score: 1

Diesel cars can give amazing mileage, esp on highway runs. And I am not even talking about Pump Dusse or CRDI. A company in india called Tata makes a diesel sedan which unsurprisingly is the best selling sedan in that country(fuel prices/income ratio is way too high in India).
On a normal highway run it gives 17-18kmpl, and if you drive with a light foot, you would get 20kmpl which equals 70 kms/gallon, which is slightly below 50mpg. Now if you bring in the newer tech like crdi etc., you are looking at an easy 55mpg.
Even modern petrol cars can give 50mpg. For example the honda city sold in india is detuned to 77bhp with loads of torque at bottom range, result 40+mpg. But the same engine can be modified to deliver power, and the fuel efficiency will drop.
So it depends where your priorities lie. A top speed of 100mph and 0-60mph in 13 sec or so satisfies you? Well then you can go for a non hybrid lighweight diesel giving you 40-50mpg. If you want a bit V6 or V8 which will smoke everybody else at the lights, well then you shouldn't be looking at efficieny
