Seems like every new version of software x is going bring down the CS (Closed Source) equivalent. The problem is the CS equivalents are the ones pushing the new features and functionality that the people using them want and need out the door first and the OSS people (in general) just copy them. Now if The GIMP actually came out with new functionality that Photoshop will never employ that made a graphics artist easier. Then yes I'd say that The GIMP might take away from Photoshop, but until then your battle cry falls short on deaf ears.

I have several friends who are tradesmen who say in the next 5-10 years there will be a significant shortage of highly qualified tradesmen. Where as everyday more software jobs are going off shore, it's pretty hard to send manual labor off shore and be competitive.

Probably one of the most poorly done books to movies ever created. I ended up walking out after 45min or so. The problem was the movie used all of the wrong parts of the book to tell the story. The character and story development jumped all over the place and it felt like it was going no where fast. It is the only movie I have ever walked out of before it finished. Oddly enough I wasn't the only one who thought this because after me and my friend got up a few others left as well at the same time.

I installed BOINC and fired it up to my surprise I found it more bothersome to actually setup. I have my old client setup to screen saver after 2min and go blank after 0 mins. The new client had the same settings but I still saw the "floating Seti box" from hell. I spent more than a few minutes with the Account Prefs/Update feature on the BOINC client/web site to realize that it often will cause the BOINC client to freeze.

Sadly if the Seti/BOINC client does not get any better I will be stopping my involvement. The old Seti client was easy to setup and I could forget about it. Now I feel I will have to "maintain" it.

And this is where your fud blows up in your face. For the base price of a MS OS (98+) you get an online KB for free, windows update for free, support from hundreds of vendors and there KB's for free. What do you get from Red Hat, a single point of contact for support or RTFM from people in the community? If I were to purchase a desktop OS purely on the idea of support MS products would be top of my list due to the fact they actually might be around for awhile.

Didn't Red Hat say a few months ago that they were not going to compete with MS at the desktop level? Why would you waste $5 per month on a company that in a year might say "oh we made a mistake we cant make money off of this lets toss the whole thing in the toilet." MS is in front right now because they are in it for the long haul. Until a distro based company can say that and put their money where their mouth is MS will always be in front.
