I don't live in Cali (let alone the States), but I'd be willing to vote for anyone who had an endorsement like this:
"As Georgy's 6th grade flute teacher at Hillcrest elementary school I can unequivically say that she is more qualified than any other candidate. She learned the 'Baby Elephant Walk' in one week, and along with her colleagues, Anika Thielbar, Brian Collins, Azizi Tucker, and Steve Mooney, she helped to put on the greatest concert in the history of Hillcrest elementary school. Her leadership qualities were apparent back then, and it is time to give her the opportunity to run this state. Move over, Gray. Georgy for Governor!" - Randy Porter, Teacher
There's a difference between recognising that something's supposed to be a joke and not finding it funny, and not recognising the joke and thinking the guy's being serious.
Lullaby, on the other hand, was pretty good but not (IMHO) up to the standard of the others. Good concept but the ending and (lack of) resolution all felt a bit hacked together . ..
That would be amazingly cool. The only problem (and it's not really a problem) would be that generally people never, or rarely, remove links. If you limited this to links only (say) a month old or younger, you could see the paths of memes round the web . . . for example right now, you'd probably see a lot of BitTorrent hotspots, whereas a couple of years ago there'd be lots focussed on "all your base" . ..
Anyone got a lot of procesing power and some spare time?;)
Snipped from the article regarding the analyst who's seen the code:
"Apparently the most telling evidence is that parts of the SCO code and Linux code include identical annotations made by developers when they wrote the programs"
Now I was very much of the impression that this was smoke and mirrors from SCO . . . but if comments in the code are the same, then something's not right somewhere
Yep, have heard some over 200bpm but you're approaching insanity then;)
If you want some decent DnB turntablism, poke around for stuff by DJ Craze, DJ Hype, or DJ Marky. Live sets are generally better for hearing the good stuff, natch;) Plus One (of the Scratch Perverts) also plays some good DnB and will play around with the turntables a fair bit . ..
Definitely a fair point, and you're right to say that most turntablists work with hip-hop. It popped out because I largely listen to drum and bass, which is certainly over 100bpm, more frequently 120-140 or higher, and there's some very skilled turntable work going on there - so when I think "talented turntablists" I tend to think first of DnB artists, who obviously don't represent the larger part of the spectrum:)
Still, I listen to a fair bit of metal too (my first love;), so was a little rash with the speed statement;)
Grab yourself a turntable and some vinyl and give it a go - I think you'll be very surprised how difficult it is to play a turntable well. You've got to be improvise and keep in time with a far faster beat than you'll find in any other form of music, and have an excellent understanding - or rather feel - for how a particular sound can be manipulated by combinations of speed of movement and pressure. Contrary to popular belief, a turntablist doesn't just slam down a record and move his/her hand back and forth - it would sound atrocious.
That said, I suspect this robot wont be a very good player - it's creating scratches alone, without any backing beat, and there's no mention made of what sounds it's scratching over. Best guess is that it hashes your e-mail into some function representing speed and direction, and translates that directly to the motors on the decks.
Nokia phones will also allow you to make calls while the keypad's locked, though not while the "enter PIN" message is displayed - though IIRC you can make emergency calls with no SIM in the phone.
999 is the official emergency number in the UK, but it's being transferred over to 112 - partially to make it more difficult for keylocked phones to dial the emergency number. The emergency services here have apparently had loads of problems with being called by people's pockets . ..
Yeah! In fact screw it, let's go right back to typewriters and telegrams! And who needs these new "cars" anyway? In my day we WALKED, and we LIKED IT! Houses? HOUSES? We used to live in a lake, and we were GRATEFUL!
You don't have to use Cat5 / whatever for the wiring. I've done a simple job (nforce2 mainboard -> length of co-ax -> receiver / hi-fi / DVD player setup) but it allows me to stick on a huge playlist of mp3s for parties, listen to mp3s which I don't have burned to CD (legal ones!), listen to internet radio, play games in 5.1 using decent speakers . . . and when I want to, I've got an audiophile quality system for listening to my CDs or watching DVDs
It may well be 30 years since the first cellphone call, but it's three years since the NYT article was written . . . couldn't you find something a little more up to date?!
Also the Microboss players - http://www.microboss.de/tex_e/main_e/produkte/fram eset_pro.htm
Has anyone had any experience of these players? I've been considering getting on since they're dirt cheap and I've got plenty of CF memory lying around, but can't find many decent reviews. Am I right in thinking that the MP3 pocket (http://www.microboss.de/tex_e/main_e/produkte/mp3 _e/mp3_pocket_e.htm) is a rebranded I-JAM pocket? I'd be particularly grateful if anyone could find reviews or post experience of the Flamenco III (http://www.microboss.de/tex_e/main_e/produkte/mp3 _e/mp3_flamenco3_e.htm)
Cheers
Phil
